it's a scam. there is a test on youtube somewhere showing that there is no benefit in terms of the signal to using them over standard copper cables.
MDC Design from the djtechtools forum hand makes audio cables if you want pretty ones, and they will come in well under neo oyaide cables in terms of price.

Scam A.K.A. marketing BS.
The hi-fi market is full of it, and has been for decades. Stand your equipment on pyramids to make it sound better. Buy little bridges to hold your cables up off the floor - only £100 each. Some people fall for it.
Here's an extreme example. $230 for one bridge. It uses "advanced materials".

You'll get a difference (in construction) between the typical cables that come bundled in the box with some kit and ones sold by reputable brands.
You may find that the branded ones last a bit longer due to being made of sterner stuff, but as for sound quality - I think you'd struggle to hear any difference. Pay a reasonable amount, but don't go overboard. Use your own common sense.
For example, you can easily buy a HDMI cable for under £5 online. Go to your local high street chain store though, and you'll probably find they're all £20 or more. It's still a HDMI cable and does the same thing. The high street one won't be four times better.

You're not buying a set of four for your speakers then, AMAHM?

I use QED phono and Skytronic Legend XLR's, I like them because their thicker and don't feel so cheap. Pioneer make phono leads now don't they.
