Sujet Sound Quality Issues

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi,

Using M4A files, and a DJM-5000 as sound card, the quality is very poor (crunchy & low bass)

Any ideas?

Latency at 11ms

Thanks!

I turned the limiter ON and it seemed to correct it.

Why would that be? Everything I read said to turn it off?

The limiter should always be ON to avoid any distortion that will occur if the music level exceeds 0dB, e.g: Due to gain setting, EQ adjustments, etc.

Most likely the files that you are loading have been incorrectly normalised by external software or have not been recorded at the optimal level. Or you may have manually adjusted the gain too high. These are probably exceeding 0dB, which without the limiter will cause distortion.

It's normal for there to be some peaks in the music where the gain is above 0dB due to normalisation to 0dB that's applied to each file as it's loaded in VirtualDJ . However, if the limiter triggers excessively or you hear obvious audio 'pumping' then you should reduce the gain slightly using the on-screen gain knob on the VirtualDJ skin. Using a skin that shows when the limiter is triggered is recommended so that you can visually see excessive triggering.

For further details about the limiter, please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Limiter.html

NOTE: Some users may turn the limiter off because they don't like the pumping sound it can cause for songs not adjusted to the correct level, but if they do this, they may be getting distortion instead, which could be considerably worse (Could even cause damage to speakers.) Songs that have noticeable pumping simply need their gain adjusted manually to the correct level (A once off process because the new setting is remembered the next time you load the song.)
