I'd like to talk about "Under Rated Equipment".

For some of the most under rated equipment would the Mixdeck series. I've owned/own the original Mixdeck and now the Mixdeck Quad. When other djs see them they usually ask if that's what I'm gonna use and how they've heard all these horror stories about them. Well other then getting a set of cdj's these things pack a lot of features for the money. I mean with the Quad you have your choice of using CDs, hard drives, flash/thumb drives, iPhones, iPods, iPads and of course your laptop!! I really can't think of any other piece of equipment that gives you so many options. Sure there made out of plastic but as long as you have a case they'll last a long time. The faders could be better but I work in a steel yard and I was able to make some new plates for the crossfader so the cut in is now minimal.

Now as far as functionality with software, I find the Quad to work best with VDJ (and yes I own Serato and Traktor) because I can dial in the jog response and map everything to my liking!! Now team the Quad up with a pair of LPD8's or the DDJ SP1 and you've got yourself a DDJ SX killer!!

As for the sound output the original Mixdeck was kinda low but sounded good. The Quad is loud and I mean loud, sometimes it's almost to loud if that's possible, lmao!! I wish they vu meters for each channel but I've been doing this a while and mix in my headphones so it's really not a problem for me.

All in all the Mixdecks are solid units and never really get enough credit for all that they can do. Sure thee are some things that can be improved on but that's with anything as far as I'm concerned.

The Mixdeck series, my most under rated piece of equipment, what's yours??

I'm not sure a lot of folks wouldn't consider it underrated, but my MC6000 (IMHO) is definitely underrated.

I can do 4 deck mixing
I can do 2 decks on VDJ with 2 Pioneer CD players
It has 2 mic inputs with EQ controls for both
It has a ducking feature for the mic
Master & individual deck VU meters
Booth control with EQ

And more features that I can't remember off the top of my head. A controller that truly fits the mobile DJ.

The one thing I dislike is how 'hot' the mic is, I had to buy an attenuator to fix this issue, but since I put that on, the mic works great.

Denon DN-SC3900s totally out-shined by Pioneer CDJs.

Not equipment but I'm surprised at how under used the 'goto' function is, It's so useful for when tracks have passages 96 beats long (when normally you mix with 64s in mind) or when a track has 4/8/16 beat under/over runs,

My diy controller has a buttons for 2 sets of goto +&- 1/2/4/8/16/32/64/96/128/192/256, 44 buttons all for goto
Some of the other djs look at me like I'm performing witchcraft when I cut into tracks breakdown with its own beat.

For me it's the Denon HS5500 from 2008.

There's still nothing like it to this day - even from Denon themselves.

It's a modular media player, so can play audio from an (optional) CD drive, USB flash drives or hard drives (up to four via a hub) plugged into the USB port, or an internal hard drive (using an optional caddy). It has an LCD display suited to browsing large libraries, and a USB keyboard can be connected for fast searching. When fitted with an internal drive, you can still connect (and switch to) up to four external drives or USB sticks.

Each HS5500 is actually two complete decks in one unit, switched by a layer button. They each have their own dedicated audio output, so can be routed to a separate mixer channel.

It has a motorized platter which can be fitted with a real 7" vinyl single. It has onboard effects. It can be used as a MIDI controller.

Despite it winning Best Single Multimedia Player at BPM 2008, Denon decided to discontinue the unit before it had a chance to catch on.

This is true and I just don't get it personally. I've played on a few Pioneer setup sand I wasn't really impressed. The power of a good marketing team I guess, lol!!

Agree 100% Groovin!! The only things I'd change are, bigger hard drives and the resolution of the platters. The platters could be tighter but other then that, yes they are the BEST decks I've owned next to my 1200's of course, lol!!

Please explain....

It's crazy the VDJ bug with the 3900s has never been fixed either.....

Another piece of underrated equipment imo, is the American AudioMXR mixer series. These mixers are both priced decently low as well as have midi capabilities. The mixeres are also Nanofader compatible for the scratch dj's.

You can also add the factor of earning the title "CLUB-STANDARD" or "INDUSTRY-STANDARD." And Pioneer seem to be consistently developing gear to keep this title on their belt.

Anyway, I sold my 3900s + 1600 already. None of my other DJs want to use them. When going out on gigs, they either pick the Technics or the Pioneer set up.

In 2003 when the battle of the brands was on, Pioneer invested the most amount of money hands down. Booking and hiring the top DJ\'s for promotional use, it was their opportunity to become ind standard after Technics and it worked! Personally I was gutted as I wanted Technics or Denon to win and with Pioneer slow to adapt to technology it was a really twat once they had won the title but I can honestly say that I am a fan now, since the CDJ 2000 and the SR and SZ they have really shown themselves to be in tune with their customers.

What did denon do? Release the MC6000 MK2, what!

Nice Flightcase idea

I have had a DMC-1 , who remembers that lol, it was built like a tank and just worked ! aaaah the joys or serial port connection....

Mixtrack pro, wow thought it was a load of plastic C**P when I took it out the box, but soon found it was in actual fact a very good controller, yes a lot of plastic but it has worked very well over the last four years, has worn well and been reliable (just one crossfader swap) , and the features that you get for your money - great , to be honest I still have this controller as a backup, don't think I can bare to part with it ..... also purchased a used one of ebay for the step daughter, so in fact two in the household lol

Denon MC6000, my current controller of choice, fantastic value for money ,built like a tank, and for us Dj's that interact with the crowd, the two mic inputs with separate EQ, echo and Ducking , well for me that thekiller feature, not many decks in its price point offers such features and legendary build quality .....

did I mention I like the MC6000 ......................

Alcatech RCP2001 controller. Only worked with BPM Studio as it was a serial interface and was horrendously expensive but way ahead of anything else at the time.

And, yeah.... The MC6000 is brilliant. Just a shame Denon dropped a complete bollock on the replacement for it :(

I agree , the mc6000 MK2 offers too little, if you thinking of one , I would still buy a mk1

But why?

Has anyone else thought this? I mean after 3 or 4 years, it must of been 4 years since the mk1 came out. Why did they bring out a carbon copy with no advancements? falling way behind Pioneer, and then seem surprised that we bashed it, it's all just too odd for me.

Behringer CMD Studio 4a

For my money the POUND FOR POUND BEST LOW END CONTROLLER!

I can work for decks off toggle, built it sound card, 8 hot cue buttons per deck, dedicated efx section with filters knobs and all!

i am a very very heavy handed mixer, i broke my mixtrack pro within a month of using it and had to replace the play and stutter buttons on both decks! I have had the CMD Studio 4a for like 6 months and it has not missed a beat!!!

love the rubberized buttons because the never feel like they will break (i almost feel guilty when i hit them some times)

it is light, cheap, and i only had to change one thing for the mapping on virtual dj play_pause to play_stutter

It is a monster at a price point that cant be beat!

only draw backs....... fader line paint fades/rubbs of quickly, no driver for windows 8.1!

i love this controller so much i am will to buy a windows 7 disc and down grade my new laptop to keep using it!!!!!!

50 times better than a mixtrack or mixtrack 2!

Another draw back is that it doesn't have a mic input.

When I noticed, I thought it was really odd because these things are designed for DJs.
