Sujet: Library Problems

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

For some reason I seem to be getting a lot of errors when selecting tunes from my library e.g. putting a track on a deck and it states 'error' I know some of these have been moved to different folders or renamed/tagged but loads of tunes I know are correct and are in a specific folder no longer show up in the library either or show error when trying to play them.

I have tried the check clean & fix buttons on the config but these does not seem to makes the slightest bit of difference.

I am at the point of deleting the library file and re-doing it all again but the last time I did this when moving files to my gigging PC it took 4 days to scan for all the BPM's plus I will lose all of my cue points on various tracks.

On the subject of re-doing it all is there a way to point the library to a specific folder rather than to a Drive letter ?

Thanks guys for any advice or suggestion's you can offer to resolve this

did you right click on mother folder of your music file and add to search library?

The check, clean and fix options won't add tracks back into the library database. They'll only tidy the database of orphans (files that have either been deleted from your drive, renamed, moved etc.).

Any moving or renaming of files should always be done from within VDJ otherwise the database won't know what's happened. It's like if someone moves your car keys without telling you. You go to the normal place to grab them and they're not there. You can't find them because the culprit didn't "update the database" by telling you.

As long as you've got "add automatically" selected for your Search Database option in config/browser then all you do to add missing files back in (assuming they're still on your drive) is to use the VDJ folder view to browse through your folders. I do this when adding files to my system.

After they've been re-added, I use the filter folders to show unscanned files, then select all and scan.

Fantastic explanation GroovinDJ... thank you!

Thanks for the replies guys

lol I love the comparison re the keys - something ironically I keep telling my wife "STOP MOVING MY STUFF"

thanks for the tip on the filter as well, just had a look at that and set one up not used filters before so this will come into use on a lot of other things as well.

On a serious note I do get the point on the Check, Clean & Fix buttons but it seems that on my machine they are not doing as they are supposed to.

E.g. I have a folder called 'ALL MUSIC' when looking in windows explorer I see a track called 'Sampletune' when looking in the same folder in the VDJ tree, I can see the tune fine but as soon as I put it into the player it comes up with 'Error' but if I put it into my Serato player, it plays fine?

I am starting to think the DB maybe corrupted possibly hence the idea of wiping the library and starting again.

One other quick question is on the db Tab it states

"3044 total entries: 3037 Files in Search DB, 7 present but hidden from search 3036 are music, o karaoke, 8 video"

I have over 100,000 tracks on my drive and no videos to my knowledge am I misunderstanding what these figures mean?

Did you add you tracks to the search DB?

Right-click on the root folder you music is in and choose "add to search database".

light bulb moment !! I haven't done that and am now thinking that could be the issue !! I will go through them and post back the results !!

thanks for the tip

Just wanted to say thanks to all who posted on here and helped me today - I now have a better understanding of how the library works and have managed to resolve all my issues without having to re do everything

Even after using VDJ for quite a few years I'm still learning !!

Thanks again

Thanks dj - I'm pretty much fixed now but will keep those tips for future reference in case I get any other problems
