Looking at picking up a couple of speakers and I found the Mackie Thump12 and Thump15 at good prices. I know people have had issues with the old Mackie TH series and they werent that great. But supposedly Mackie has redone their speakers and the Thump series are brand new. Just wondering if anyone has had the chance to actually listen to them and what kind of review you have of them.

Just be careful not to over drive them and you'll be find, they are a good affordable starter speaker set and will do the job for small venus, the 15" will give you a more full sound..
Good Luck

I have been using the 15" ones for a couple of years now. I either use 2 or 4 depending on the size of the party. If I need more then i have additional older speakers. But the sound quality is good.

Holy hell, those are cheap. And 1000 watts!? Is that RMS? That's insane.
This sounds too good to be true. If these are legit I know what my next PA system is going to be.
EDIT: After doing some quick research turns out that these use Class D amps. I thought those were only suitable for subwoofers due to their high distortion. Explains the price, though.

The new Thump15's are listed as 126 dB SPL @ 1m
The old Thump-15a's were only listed as 118 dB SPL @ 1m
So yes, that's a big difference
I sometimes use the old ones, and no, compared to most other pretty cheap class-d speakers (EV-ZLX, Mackie SRM450v2, JBL EON) they don't sound too good, and are not really powerfull enough - but who knows, maybe the new version is better :-)

I believe that most new active tops have some sort of class D amp. It's so much lighter and run cooler, so a lot of people are looking in that direction, even if they don't sound as nice as the old active tops

Been using them for 2 years with one sub and DBX DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer. I've Dj'd in school gyms, clubs, and even outside with my setup. Not mind blowing sound but they sound good enough especially with my DBX DriveRack PX pushing them. The have good lows too. I had a strict budget, so these were perfect for me. I think they're a good investment starting out. Just make sure you throw a limiter in there or a speaker optimizer. It will keep them from red lining all the time. They have built in EQs and you can chain them together if you get more than two. They are also light in my opinion as far as lugging them around. If I had one complaint it would be that they often "red lined" when cranking the volume. That was solved by adding in my DriveRack. I actually still use these speakers and think they are good. If you're going to buy them, might as well get the newest version by the way. Zzounds has a payment plan available on them. No interest.

I know the old TH series had massive issues with red lining and clipping. These new Thump series are supposed to be much better and have higher power, but because they are so new...there isnt many reviews of them just yet.
Wattage doesnt mean a whole lot when it comes to speakers, but I do like the fact that their SPL rating is much much higher than the old series. That means no matter what, they have a larger and fuller sound and can take a little more of a beating than the old ones.

So, I pulled the plug on them due to an amazing deal. I got the pair of Thump15's (brand new), 2 medium to heavy duty black steel speaker stands, and 2 20 foot XLR cables for $614 shipped to my door. Gonna look for either a 15" or 18" powered sub to compliment them nicely.

Cool bro. Let me know what you think. I want to add some of those new 15s to my set-up. Like you, I couldn't find any reviews being that they're brand new. Looking forward to your assessment. Hope you enjoy them bro.

I just picked up a set, haven't used them yet but I'll keep you posted

What do you all think about the protection plans?
Posté Fri 27 Jun 14 @ 6:06 pm
So after having them for about a week, I put them through some serious work. They hold up great, sound amazing, and take a beating. By far, they absolutely destroy the old TH series in every way (I heard the TH series at Guitar Center).
So anyone looking for a good set of inexpensive 15's....pick these up. Cant beat them for the price.

Recently took the Mackie's out for the first time on a 4 hour set. I had to make some adjustments of course, but overall I was content with the speakers meaning I made through the set. I did have to turn the lows down from time to time but the crowd really did'nt notice, when the red light began to blink i just switched to a different song that was'nt so driving. I still got a really hot set around 125-128bpms and the crowd was pleased.
A sub would really set it off.

Currently looking for subs, I have looked at the EV's 700w 18", and, Mackie 1000w 18" so far. The Mackie reviews on Amazon kind of scares me. Not really sure about the Alto subs just yet, any suggestions?

The 1600 watt Mackie 1850's subs aren't currently in the budget.
