Mostly need general liability insurance just in case, but a small amount of coverage for equipment wouldn't hurt. I am in the United States and just getting started. I will probably only make a few hundred dollars a month and need to keep expenses low. Thanks for your input.

Do you know how expensive wedj.com is for insurance? I have to pay $49.95 to join before I can find out how much the insurance will cost. I am a cheapy....only need $5000 equipment coverage and maybe 500k liability. Thanks.

I used http://www.rvnuccio.com/dj-mobile-entertainer/dj-overview.html . Was about $400 for the year. You can do per event too I think. Very professional though.
