Hello to all...............I'm new here so be on your best behavior. I have a question, is there an alternate way to hook up the laptop to your mixer other than using a single prong cord to your headphone port and the other two patch cord ends to the mixer?

Yes - you can use an external USB audio interface. If you buy one intended for DJ use then these usually have two separate outputs. One for the master output signal and the other for headphone (cueing). You could also send separate deck outputs directly to a hardware mixer (just like connecting two CD players or turntables) and cue from the mixer.
Alternatively the majority of USB DJ controllers have onboard audio, which will allow you to cue as above but also control VDJ.
