Guys I've been doing weddings in Scotland for 10 years. Friday will be my first gig south of the boarder, there's a few songs I do which really wouldn't work in England. Any songs you would recommend for doing a wedding in Newcastle?

Really depends on the Bride & Groom's preferences. Not knowing what you normally consider "wedding music" difficult to say. From My experience they all differ in music choice.
I always encourage input from the couple to ensure they get what they and their guests like or prefer.

I don't normally do this, but, please keep this playlist quiet (company secret). I've done 64 weddings in the last year and this playlist has been built up with over 18 years of experience in top 4* Hotels in the Durham area. Roy Orbison's Penny Arcade works very well with an obvious Scottish influence. You will see obvious things like my `Dirty Dancing routine' starting with Soul Banana (fast version) (brilliant Soul stuff from the 60s) eventually finishing with 'Do You love Me' from Dirty Dancing) going into 'La Bamba', 'Hey baby' and finishing with 'Hungry Eyes'.
Bowburn Part 1.m3u
Bowburn Part 2.m3u
...... is for later in the night for the younger ones, 2000 onwards.
Hope this is helpful and you have a successful wedding gig.
Let me know how it went down.
Cheers
Les

Newcastle !
Maybe the Bay City Rollers ? LOL
Dexy's Midnight Runners, both Geno & Come On Eiieen.
These are UK universal; Proclaimers 500 Miles : Commitments Mustang Sally : Shamrock Tell Me Ma : I think this bit of cheese has returned S Club 7 Reach but make sure you time it right!.
Near the end I'd try Lindisfarne Fog on the Tyne (not with Gazza).
They know their own.
Do a Google search for this page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bands_from_Newcastle,_United_Kingdom
Jimi Hendrix [1] (although not from Newcastle, he did spend prolonged periods of time in the city during the 1960s. Often busking in the Heaton area of the city, he was also discovered and managed by Animals musician Chas Chandler)
wow!
I heard Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner @ 1970 Isle of White, another wow!

After many very drunken weekends in Newcastle, the only song I seem to remember is 500 miles. Ha ha!
Posté Mon 21 Sep 15 @ 6:25 pm
Ha! All the requests I got from the wedding party are Scottish too!
Posté Mon 21 Sep 15 @ 6:37 pm
It's maybe the fact I'm from Aberdeen I only remember the Scottish songs. Going down there on a football weekend is mental. Cheap shots in the City Vaults and gorgeous waitresses in Newcastle strips. Drooolllll.

Hi the thing that I do is at any venue or location is play a variety of genre music in the first hour of warm up and watch people's reaction and movement to what is playing and take it from there normally works for me

Absolutely wmorgan12. I guess what I was getting at was the regional difference for the Newcastle area.
Like Keith is from Aberdeen who have a traditional grand wedding march to bring the wedding party into the room, or in the Glasgow area the party doesn't start until you've played a song which people can dance the slosh too.

Dunno what happened with that post, it was meant to be a private message. The playlists didn't get sent either.

Posté Mon 21 Sep 15 @ 10:33 pm
Jimmy Nail was a good singer, he had to be, he was a little on the u@ly side LOL
A lot of people liked him !
UK No1 Ain't No Doubt
UK No 3 Love Don't Live Here Anymore
UK No 4 Crocodile Shoes
He's well worth a play at a Newcastle wedding.
Note: I've got some learning to do, I thought both the Bay City Rollers, and Dexy's Midnight Runners came from Newcastle. I got a surprise finding their from Scotland and Birmingham respectively. That may leave Newcastle a little light on musical talent.
