Ok, so now that I have deleted all my duplicates I am trying to complete all the tags which are missing. In the past i have googled each song, which is time consuming, but ultimately accurate in the end. Just tried the first few songs using discogs within VDJ and at least 50% are wrong. I can't trust it at all. It is fine with anything in the last ten years, but anything in the last ten years quite frankly i would know of the top of my head, and is almost certainly already tagged properly anyway. These are the songs i started with and what I got....
Gloria Jones - Tainted Love - VDJ told me it was 1981 - should be 1967
Sandy Shaw - Puppet On A String - VDJ told me it was 1990 - Should be 1967
Jessie J - Its my party - VDJ told me this was genre: Acid House?
Dianna Ross - Why Do Fools Fall In Love - VDJ told me it was 1989 - Should be 1981
Rihanna - Diamonds - VDJ told me this was genre:Vocal - should be RnB
Its a great idea, but based on this it is unusable because I would have to double check every one of them. I have only tested ten files at this point. Is there any way this can be made at least 90% accurate? Currently I am going to have to keep googling them.

Well, there are (official) vocal versions of Rihanna - Diamonds. So pretty difficult for VDJ to get the right genre out of a couple possible and legitimate options.

Yes, but if it always took the oldest date it could find, it would generally be right. Unless it can be at least 90% right, then it is pointless. At the minute its around 50% on anything older than ten years.

I did a manual search on Discogs for the tracks you mentioned above.
And I see no pattern how VDJ selects the infos.
I.E. The genre of the master release of Diamonds is Electronic, Pop
https://www.discogs.com/Rihanna-Diamonds/master/485052
Jessy J's It's my party is Pop. I did not find any Acid House version.
https://www.discogs.com/Jessie-J-Its-My-Party-/master/598969
And the year of Sandy Shaw - Puppet On A String is in fact 1967
https://www.discogs.com/de/Sandie-Shaw-Puppet-On-A-String/master/362449
In short: I don't get it :D

No i don't get it either, though in all fairness, having spent hours manually searching for the info myself, it is not always easy to find the right information, and discogs itself is not always correct. Especially for various northern soul tracks.
The Gloria Jones one for instance, was released in the US in 1967, but pretty much didn't sell a copy. It was found in a record shop by an English northern soul dj and brouhgt back to the UK and became a hit and was then re-released in the UK.
What i would say though, is the concept of VDJ being able to find the right information and tag our files, is a brilliantly good idea, because so many of us spend so long having to do it.
Between all the users of VDJ we already have all this information though. If VDJ backed up our database folders to a server it would have two huge advantages. 1. It would backup our databases. 2. It could then collate all our tag information and provide the largest and most comprehensive song database in existence.

Which build did you use?
I just tried Gloria Jones - Tainted Love, and VDJ filled in 1965 (from https://www.discogs.com/Gloria-Jones-My-Bad-Boys-Comin-Home-Tainted-Love/master/275676 )
As for the genre, vdj currently uses the 'style' field from discogs, as it appeared to be more accurate, whereas for many songs the genre was overly broad.
But it looks like style is indeed also often used to indicate that there is singing in the track.

I updated last night to the latest public build 3671.
EDIT. To be honest, the genre isn't that important, we probably all use different genres for our own reference. For instance Gloria Jones I would tag as Northern Soul. But that means nothing outside of the UK.

Strange then, there was nothing else in the title/artist field?
Posté Thu 06 Apr 17 @ 9:37 am
No, there was nothing else in those fields
Does it take from the title/artist field, or from the filename?

artist, title and remix field
Posté Thu 06 Apr 17 @ 9:46 am
Ok, well the artist and title are literally just Gloria Jones - Tainted Love. There was nothing in the remix field. I will delete out the year later and try again when i get home, but I did try it a few times last night.
