Hi Everyone,

This may be a very dumb question as I'm just starting out on visuals but is there a way of doing a manual slideshow with decent transitions?

To date I have found that using the built in 'Slideshow' the transitions between slides can be reasonably controlled.... but it doesn't seem to be possible to only manually change slides (with the maximum time a slide is up being 30s?). Thus once a source folder has been selected all the images in it will be cycled through.

Using Telly Media it seems to be possible to change the slides manually.... but the length and smoothness of transitions seems very limited. I thought that an alternative might be to try running Telly Media on two decks and manually transition between two slides however it only seems to allow showing the same slide on both decks (i.e. it doesn't seem to allow running the effect independently on two different decks).

These leaves the only option that I have come up with is having each individual image that I want to project in a different folder... running 'Slideshow' on two different decks.... and manually transitioning between them while changing the selected folder in slideshow each time I want to change the image..... All of which seems a bit cumbersome!

Any better solutions? Or have I just missed something?

Cheers....

When the slideshow was added to TellyMedia for VDJ7, it was probably the best available. While doing it I knew I could do a lot more but the thinking at the time was to start on an all new program. And not keep trying to update TellyMedia and TellyVisuals. I consider them mostly as building block for something better. Years latter I am still trying to put up something a whole lot better. I have been working on it, but I have to also earn a living doing other program work that can consume a lot of time. I agree the transitions suck. TellyMedia and TellyVisuals will be put into a new program with more and better features unless I die first :)

TM and TV used to track separate files for each deck and master. But it became impossible because VDJ could change the deck when running as a visualization which was lame. I could not determine what files belonged to what instance of the program because of that. I think they may have changed that recently but have not had the time to look at it closely.

Not too big a deal though since with TM and TV you can just make a copy and rename it. Then the renamed copies will run completely independently of each other. You can't do that with the built in effects but you can with TM and TV.

Slideshow and other plugins have multiple interfaces and you can change your preferences when they are both up. As soon as you close VDJ or shut down say the Slideshow plugin the information is lost for the multiple instances. It saves only the last one that was used I think. TM and TV, are so rich, that the file specs are much more complex for saving preferences and so doing something lame does seem to be the thing to do. Decks are poorly implemented as well for video plugins... pretty silly. I would love to say something nice about it if I could :)

TMs slideshow can be run manually. It also plays videos to completion. Images stay up for the time selected. Animated images play to completion.

Thanks for the background and info Don.

It looks like the workaround of having two copies of Telly media and run them on different decks might be the way forward....

Cheers
