Hi there when I plug my mixer into my speaker all I hear is the artist music and not them singing as well?

Don't worry, it's a Jean Michel Jarre album. :-)
 
If you are using a headphone cable it may not be pushed in completely. That can cause weird stereo artifacts (like losing the vocals).
