I have a buddy who's having major issues with vdj and his pioneer ddj-1000. The volumes swing wildly from song to song, he has to have his hand on the gain and volume knobs with every single song change, and his headphones will blow his ears out with each song change. he's used virtual dj for years and just recently upgraded to the ddj-1000. I checked out his system and the only thing I could think to do was set his autogain to on position, but this has done nothing. He also upgraded to the latest firmware but this made no difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Normally all he needs to do is to set autogain to "auto" and not to "auto+remember"
If that doesn't help then perhaps he could rescan a batch of files and test if that helps or not.

Same problem with newly scanned music. Wild volume changes from track to track, headphones blow your ears to mars with volume... Jeez this is bad.

And you get this difference in sound level between tracks, even without using the DDJ-1000 (using just your computer's built-in sound card and mouse/keyboard) , or only when you use the DDJ-1000 ?
Is it always the same tracks that differ or could be vice versa .. the same tracks loaded to opposite decks and the louder is always the same track regardless the deck its loaded ?
Just trying to see if the issue comes from a setting in the software, the tracks themselves or the hardware. Normally with autoGain to "Auto" you shouldnt have any issue
If you think your assistance and our proposals lead your friend nowhere, perhaps advise him to join our Support and let our agents troubleshoot with him further.
