My options in VDJ are set to regular cue mode but with this controller it behaves like cue-hold (continues playing if held for 2s). I went into the controller mapping and didn't see an overriding mapped function so I am just trying to figure out if I can change this or if it is a hardware behaviour rather than a software one (I much prefer the cue snapping back unless I release it with the play button).

This behavior is planned to change with the next EA version of VirtualDJ.
If you don't want to wait, then you can remap the CUE button to cue_stop
