Sujet: Laptop output with the Rane One MKII
When practicing I set the master output to headphones to which I have two office like speakers with subwoofer. With the MKII, I am unable to perform a full eq kill like with the original Rane One and that includes the "gain/level' knobs which have no effect at all. The software post fader effect function does work although the settings is correct. I thought that those would still work when not using the MKII outputs. Any advice would be appreciated

Rane One MKI used a "software" mixer. Software was doing all the mixing and outputting the sound of the "master" channel back to the console, and/or any other sound interface.

Rane One MKII uses a "hardware" mixer. Software sends the audio of each deck to the console and it's own hardware (firmware) does the mixing. Thus VirtualDJ in this case does not produce a "master channel" audio signal that can send to another audio interface.
Even when you enable a "master" output on the audio setup, the software mixing from the hardware mixing will be different, and the hardware effects of Rane One MKII will not work.

What you can do:
1) Connect your speakers directly to Rane One MKII
2) Connect the "MASTER 2" (unbalanced) output of Rane One MKII to your computer's built in sound interface and then allow the audio from "line in" to be heard on your computer's primary output.
3) Create a custom audio setup that includes a master output, but also create a custom mapper that removes the fake actions from <ONINIT> key. In this case the mixer section will start working properly, BUT the built-in hardware effects will not!

Is this why software effects are a bit off when using the Rane One MK2? All the effects seem to skip back a tiny amount (a few 10s of miliseconds I think) when enabled and then jump back to where they were when turned off. Also some of the parameters act a little strangely, cut operates at 1/16 when 8bt is selected for example. Also strength is set to 50% one the effect is disabled.

Main reason I noticed this is since MK2 has no hardware equivalent of cut sadly 😅

Software effects have to use effect "send/return" channels for post fader effects to work.
Therefore a delay that equals your soundcard buffer x2 does occur while software effects are active.

As for "Cut", Rane One MKII offers "Choppa" hardware effect which is similar, but uses patterns.

That makes sense, my buffer size is 512 {probably not necessary but I want to use the One mk2 at a gig on Saturday and the thought of underruns scares me 😅 }

I'll miss vdj's FX, though feels like there's more variety and configurability in them.

Thanks for the informative response 😊
