Hi guys,
I mentioned this before it was attributed to Windows. But maybe it's not windows
[15:37:26] Thread videoDecoder freezed.
[15:38:16] Thread Song freezed.
I have several i7 machines all running in bars playing video, each one has the exact same setup. One machine and only one installed in July gives constant problems, random freezes, stopped audio and video and white screen. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't work and if it does it won't open the processes tab.
The "VirtualDJ is not responding" pops up sometimes, "Close or wait for the program to respond." Closing the program and re-opening without restarting windows fixes the problem, but we don't know for how long. Today it's been running since I think 3:45pm and still going well at of 12:30 Paris time.
Previous advice was to reinstall all audio and video drivers, done and updates as far as is possible, that did seem to help but the problem has begun to rear it's ugly head again.
The fact that it works perfectly after a VDJ shutdown and restart without a reboot of Windows suggests that it could be VDJ, but I can't figure out how that could be possible when the other machines are absolutely fine and have never crashed.
Any ideas anyone? My only plan from here is to swap it out and use it for an office PC, but it is rather far away so if I can fix it I will.
Thanks folks
M

Since it's the video decoder, it could also be the gpu or gpu drivers.
If your cpu is fast enough, you could try disabling useDxva to confirm

Thank you! I've done that now and we'll see what happens.

I used to get video freezing on my 2019 Lenovo laptop which has i7 with on board graphics and disabling dxva completely solved it for me.

Thank you Adion, 48 hours and nothing in the logs. It's running on minimums, feels great reaction is instant.

I might have found an issue corresponding to the time with Event Viewer.
The device, \Device\Harddisk1\DR1, has a bad block.
I'm going to run an error check and defrag tonight and see it that helps, just to reiterate this is the only machine with the system and I'm pretty sure it's not VDJ so I really appreciate your help, thank you.

You not using SSDs in 2025?
Posté Thu 16 Oct 25 @ 10:28 am
You're right, but I'm a one man startup with volunteers and the budget didn't stretch to the 4tb library SSDs for several machines just yet. The C: drive is SSD, and VDJ is really easy on old school drives. Well, given that it has a solid 3 three minutes to get a file. We're not Djing in the modern sense, just playout in bars.
Just ran the scan: No errors, defrag not necessary.

I would not trust that report because by design it's not meant to give you comprehensive details about your drive. Only about the filesystem itself.
So, download and run crystal disc info and check the drive in question.
It's quite possible that the drive has a few sectors marked as bad already (which is not a good sign and things will keep escalating from there)

Thank you bro, it's taken me so long to come back because everything has been running smoothly until today. Bizarre.
Thank you for the heads up. I'll do that and come back.
I really appreciate the help.
