I would like add DMX controlled lighting to my events, but I have been holding off purchasing any hardware until I know the capabilities of VDJ with DMX. For example, do I need to purchase a 3rd party DMX software app that interfaces with VDJ? Do I need a USB to DMX hardware interface (or can I just go USB to separate DMX mixer)? Is there VDJ guide or topic that explains my options (and even suggested apps/models of hardware to use)?

Yes you need software and a compatible DMX interface. I use ShowXpress with the Xpress 512S dongle and it works perfectly with VDJ. You can control the lights from pads, custom buttons or at a certain point in a song with POI.
