Im about to take the plunge and buy a complete virtual dj system my musical focus will be on play back of music videos..and Im tryin to not waste time or money by buying the wrong gear...my question is which is the better playback device Xp10 or a Denon DNS3500,and which is best for scratching and can the various features on the Denon....sound effects for example.....work on the audio portion of the files being played through it?

you can NOT use the audio effects on the Denon, when using timecode CD to controll Virtual DJ.
What is best of XP10 and Denon ? all up to you really...
The xp10 works directly at software, no latency.. no issues.
Timecode have (un-noticable) latecy depeding on your soundcard, and still is not all perfect, but works pretty good.
Having Denons would let you play real cd's too, if you wanted. XP10 is purly a controller.
And XP10 also have buttons for effects and more, that will trigger them in software. The Denon doesn't, but you can always do it in software by keyboard shortcuts, mouse or midi controller.
The XP10 have built in soundcards, the Denon does not (so you would need a good asio souncard too)
