I have searched and payed and done everything I could think of to fix the fact that .WMA files dont work. Only to find out that they must have been ripped using windows media player and were copy protected apon rip by default setting. There is no work around, and as far as I can tell the only thing you can do is rip the tracks again unprotected or use another mp3 converter to change them to mp3. Since I have literally gigs and gigs of these dumb files this is not an options for me.
So if possible somehow or some way if you could please post this in many places, sticky it and beat it into everyones head that this is a known issue and why it is that way.
Also I understand this is user error not your programs fault but it seems to be a common issue.
Thanx...

yo, it sounds like you download from musicab, of some other online record pool, i had the same problem with my files, and all i did wat to get in contact with the supplier and have them turm the copyright protection off, that way all the files that you download from now on will be able to play,
as for the stuff you already have, the only way i know of isf how you are doing it, burn it, then rip it,
you might be want to try burning the files to dvd the ripping them to mp3, it's the same prosses but with more infomation,

Spyder, I have to tell you that I don not have a similar problem to yours. I actually purchase protected WMA files from walmart.com and, ocassionally, buy.com. They all play just fine on my laptop. One thing that I DID find out yesterday, though, is that VDJ will not let you records your mixes if you have protected WMA files. Once you load a protected wma file to a deck, it will stop recording. You'll get a pop up msg telling you just that, but you'll be able to continue with the mix. It just won't record from that point on. The only other thing that I can think of is the you may only be able to play the file on the computer on which it was ripped. There should be a way to add aditional computer permissions, a la iTunes, for those files.
Other than that, I could only suggest getting a software called Tunebite, which lets you record wma files into mp3 files. Technically, it doesn't convert the file, so it isn't illegal. There is a high speed mode, so you won't have to record the files in real time. here is their website:
http://www.tunebite.de/website/v2/en/home.php?affiliate=1580ff2c915cff87a5e22a68c06d32ad
If that link doesn't work, you should google tunebite. I hope this helps.

I'm not too sure, since i rip off CDs, but according to DJ Cyder on this thread http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/55289/Software_Technical_Support/Can_VDJ_play_DRM_PROTECTED_music_files___.html?highlight=protected%20wma you can, so my guess is that different vendors can play in VDJ and some don't. I'd use Napster, however, since you can use the global daabase feature in VDJs browser function. :o)
Hope this help

Nebula, I believe that spyder indicated that he did rip from CD's. I think he's just trying to find a way to remove DRM without having to re-rip.
