it seems that vdj is picky when it comes to storing vids. example, if I put them in "my videos" it doesn't seem like they are showing up in vdj when I browse files, yet if in another directory, they show. what's wrong?

As in My Documents - My Videos ?
There were issues in the past with the Recursing covering through the My Documents structure especially on multiuser account systems where you were not able to scan another user's folder because of Windows security - I think that was the problem. So, if memory serves me well, that whole "Documents and Settings" structure [which includes the My Documents for every user] is ignored if you try Recursing the whole C: drive.
It is recommended you use your own folder structure on C:\ or the VirtualDJ folder's pre-made folders.

I recommend not storing your songs on your C drive. In my opinion it is best to have a small C drive. Install Windows and VDJ on it. Make another partition (D drive) for your music. If you have problems with your pc, you simply could format your c drive and reinstall.
Keep in mind to make regular backups of your vdj files to your D drive and USB key or similar.

I don't keep all my videos there, they are on an external drive. I was testing some things out and my documents the directory i happen to put the vids. but all is good now, thank you!
