ok from what i see the u46dj gets around 7ms latency
and the edirol fa 66 can get about 4ms latency
the difference in price is around $80 but my computer doesnt have fire wire! if i buy a pci fire wire card for my laptop will it cause it to lose any latency? or will it be just like me having a built in firewire?
I dont mind spending a little more if its worth it! i will be doing alot of scratching and plan on buying this program as soon as i figure out what type of sound card!

if you get a express slot card
its even faster than a pci built in one :)

PCI talks directly to motherboard, and should't add to latency, more than built-in Firewire interfaces (port).
A regular Firewire port adds about 32 buffer of latency in asio, less than 1 ms
PCI cards can in theory operate on less latency than Firewire, so on a firewire card you can expect a system latency about 8-10ms. Really not noticable.
A PCI card can operate as low as 4-5 ms, but noone (I bet..) can tell any difference ...
PCI is faster than Firewire, so it can easily handle Firewire through a PCI card (PCI to Firewire card)
