a buddy of mine was just telling me that hes gonna do this for a gamin PC. I'm not sure if this gives any advantages or not, but if someone has any experience doing this?? What to ya do, just install XP on a 8 gb dongle, and boot from it?? Wierd...

I am not sure if you can install XP to a USB device. I know if you try to install Vista to a USB device it does not allow it.
Why not just buy a larger hard drive, partition, and dual boot it. Would be much better option IMO.

yes you can do this , you need to start the install of xp when you computer is in windows off the cd chosoe a clean install and force it onto that drive :)
wont do it from boot tho
now go to bios and choose removable usb device as the first boot device

you can indeed boot from a USB key OS instal, but you need to have a BIOS that can support USB volumes natively, most new ones seem to. and there are BIOS revisions for some slightly older ones to allow them to.
