I have a dell with 2 gig ram, so I'm not having a problem running the VDJ 4.2. Its been running good so far, the forum has been very helpful...and worth the 299.00. I just have this hardware and need to know how to set it up.
I do need help setting up my gigaport sound card so I can cue the next song while the house is playing, in the headphones. ( I guess I plug the headphones into the headphone output on the gigaport)
also is there a button , setting where I can choose player one to cue or player two... I played with the program last night and had to slide the cue/mix from one to another... unlike just choosing cue player one or cue player two like a external mixer.
I would love to be able to have cue in left ear and house in right ear. I did this for many years and still find it on some external mixers. I dont' like to have the main and cue in both ears , but guess I can get used to it or run a small monitor speaker.
I have a DAC2 controller and need to know the best mapper and how to install it.
thank you in advance for your time and wisdom in this matter. I did check many forum entries on this subject... but have a show tomorrow where I will need this info. Thanks

OK, if you have the Gigaport, I am going to assume you use an external mixer, right? If so then pre-listen and use your headphone there. If you are not using an external mixer, then not sure the reason for a Gigaport? But, if so then I would set VDJ into a two sound card configuration,
Output setting to - Headphones
Sound Card(s) to - 2 Cards
Sound Card 1 - Gigaport
Sound Card 2 - Your internal PC/Laptop sound card - (RealTek, Creative, etc)
Use your built in sound card and hook you headphones to that jack. And, then the Gigaport goes to your AMP/Speakers.
Hope that helps.
As for DAC2 Mapper - http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/download.html?addon_id=2945
Here is mine, try it. Read the ReadMe.txt in the ZIP file for instructions.
Addt'l Note: Need to copy the DAC2.DLL to your C:\\Program Files\\VirtualDJ\\Plugins\\ControlDevice
Good Luck...

Cstoll, thank you for your reply.
I did not know that I could cue songs, while the main is playing ... using only my computer.
, not sure how i select the player that i want to cue other than ... pulling the headphone slider to one side or the other... is this correct?
if you have a better way to divide the sound so i can cue , while the main is playing... I'm trying to get away from the external mixer due to the fact , I use a mackie cfx 12 which is not your usual dj mixer. I thank you for your suggestions. Michael

OK, so I looked at the cfx12 board. How are you plugged in from you Gigaport? Are you using 4 channels or just 2 on the board?
Using the SOLO PLF on the board will allow you to preview the channel for CUEing. Just need to make sure the faders for the channel(s) you want to preview are pulled back to the bottom select the SOLO PLF for those channels and start playing the other track and listen to the channel from VDJ that you are trying to CUE.
Can talk more once you tell me how you are using the board.

Cstoll, thanks for taking your time to check out the board. it means a lot to have someone with experience with this program taking an interest in my particular situation.
Now here is my situation in a bit more detail. I tried using the vdj with gigaport(well actually it was PCDJ at the time because i had a demo of vdj, no sound seperation ) when I tried to cue using the solo on the board, you could actually hear some fade over into the main mix. This was especially bad when they were dancing to a slow song and in the background you hear Usher Yeah haha. So for music parties I would use my Peavy dj mixing board, the gigaport and PCDJ... it worked fine . Here is where i have a problem. I am using the Mackie board mainly because i run as many as four mics and special effects for karaoke which is my main business. I need to be able to add music or add karaoke as needed.
I was hoping to be able to run virtual dj and cue from the computer somehow ( I experimented with this the other night using the laptop and the gigaport, with headphones plugged into the gigaport. I could see the gigaport was pumping out the main on Channels 1/2 and i was able to listen in the headphones to the cue/mix according to the headphone fader mix/cue. But I was unsure if what I was seeing and hearing , was what was actually being pumped to the crowd. This is what I would really like as I could use the gigaport to send a good quality signal to my mackie board on ONE channel , then I could listen to my next song/ cue from the headphone jack on the gigaport. I wish i could just select the cue channel instead of moving the fader all the time... I hate the mix together in the headphones, I guess i could just fade all the way and use a monitor (any suggestion on something small)
... I actually have a DAC2 and the BCD2000, which would be ideal to control the vdj program but it doesn't really mount with all the other rack mount stuff and Ive heard so many horror stories ( I was liking it because it had cue for left and right as well as fader control, which i use to touch , some quick cuts , some slow mixes... but with the keyboard short cuts ...haven't got very good at it. I would like to assign my fader control to my keyboard on my laptop for the arrow buttons on the bottom right. instead of page up page down in the upper right corner.
I know this is a lot to dump on a fellow dj , and I hope to be able some day to help others with the knowledge i get ... yet I have a party in about four hours and will more than likely just do (what dj's around here call being a dj, which is hope the next song it cued, then hit automix , which I can't stand )
I thank you in advance for taking your time and going through all the headaches to acquire the knowledge i need for this endevor... Michael

So why not add the Peavy mixer back into the scheme. Feed the Gigaport to the Peavy then the Peavy to the Mackie?
And I would find a way to add the DAC or the BCD into your gear, you will have more fun with using VDJ then clicking the mouse.

i'm just trying to downsize... one man show... I'd love to have a single rack that supplied my needs.
Posté Sun 25 Mar 07 @ 6:26 am
Understand. However it seems you are running into 'tech' limits of downsizing.
If you have the ability to mix externally you should cue from the external mixer - otherwise you begin to run in to other challenges when trying to running the headphone from the PC.
Anyhow.
I have never used nor able to get the 'headphone' port on the Gigaport to work. So if you want to CUE from the PC, then you are back to my original post about the 2 sound card options.

one of my original concerns about the software was the ability to cue songs, that was before my pocketbook was 299.00 lighter.
I was told that once, i got the pro version i could do this... Now before you make me feel small haha. I know about using an external mixer... been doing that for over 27 years.
I was just Hoping that there was a way / simple ( don't think so ) that I could use the software (computer only or maybe with gigaport ) to cue/ prelisten , so that I could mix ... or I could just be like 90 % of the so called DJ's in my area... that only know how to mix if its a ultimixed song.
Suggestions would be appreciated. Michael

hey micheal - if your going to be just using the laptop and dac2. The gigaport is not working for you, try just a regular 6.1 surround sound card like a soundblaster X-FI?
A lot of us use something like this to hook into our DJ mixers, under soundcard setup.
Chose:
4.1 card
Output 1 to main
Output 2 to headphone /channel in your makie for PFL.
Or mono seperated wiuth a Y-RCA adapter.
I use the three channel mixer set up with only a single 6.1 surround card.
Granted that's going to a 19' dj mixer but whether it's a dj mixer or mixing consol - same difference.
Btw:
I used to own a BCD2000 - I returned it. Too many software/compatablity issues. I find the DAC far surpasses the BCD2000

Marcel, thanks for the suggestions. I have set the gigaport up using the 4.1 sound card settings , I then chose gigaport, and one of the settings like rear main and front/ headphones. I can then plug the headphones into the gigaport end (headphone 1/8 inch mini jack) and hear the selected player... ex slider is to the left in Mix/cue = player one, slider in Mix/cue is to the right = player 2... I guess I'll have to get a small monitor speaker to mix to when I do dance shows. Most people in my area are not used to mixed music and I'm not saying you HAVE to mix all the time but when you can put together four good songs in a seamless way ... its just good for the dancers and good for me. I hope I can get this dac working and learn something about using a fader on lap top. I don't like it , thats why i got the BCD2000.
Pern is working with a new mapper that might solve some of my needs.
thanks for taking your time to suggest some possibilities.
