I'VE JUST BOUGHT 5.2 AND I HERE LITTLE POPPING SOUNDS WHEN I TURN THE KNOBS AND USE THE CROSS FADER.

It helped for me to turn of "safe mode" under performance or something (just made a clean install of vista, so I ain't got a copy ready to check under which tab that option lies, but it's in there somewhere :D ).
