Are you doing mobile shows? What kind of rack mount do you currently have. Im looking for one, whilemy shuttle died (due to weak construction probably). What are the rest of your current specs?
I have no experience with the alienware latops.

alien ware is just dell with a different case
so be aware that you are getting similar specs as the main dell models but a high price case

@skyfxl, you are completely incorrect. alienware was bought by dell. however they still engineer and manufacture their own products. they are more or less autonomous from dell. just part of the same family now.
i have an alienware. i love it. some background, im a programmer, i use it for gaming, im a dj 17 years now. i do video work with it, audio production, rendering, graphic design, etc, etc, etc.
My m9750 is well-built and VDJ has not crashed a single time since i first got the lappy in early june, and i put some serious hours behind VDJ. At least 12 hours per week.
Any naysayers are welcome to be quiet until theyve actually tried one. I love mine to bits... Needless to say I researched for 3 months for a few hours per day reading reviews and scouring notebook forums reading info from people who actually have some cred behind their opinions (ie people from the pc manufacturing industry). Alienware is a quality product. Not a cheap Dell budget machine like skyfrxl suggests...
mind you, i have two honest gripes about the alienware.
1) it came with vista despite i ordered xp. currently vista does not support nvidia SLI so I had to build my own xp installation which was a pain due to having a raid confirguration so i had to slipstream my own windows install disks. in the end that was much better cuz i was able to optimize the o/s
2) i thought i could use the onboard surround sound card for vdj. alas, the latency is not as good as using my m-audio via firewire.
3) you have to disable the SLI to run a separate desktop on the video output (but this does makes sense anyhow)
concerning video, well i play games on the highest possible settings. 1920x1200. not a single game even flinches.
i also use vdj to play a video radio station in miami. for this i backproject some simple winamp AVS onto a reversed screen behind the dj. so you get a trippy backdrop effect. so winamp and the projector is running with vdj on my alienware, both at the same time. theyre running really smooth together and its not hurting vdj at all.

There is a video version of shoutcast.
But it requires INCREDABLE bandwidth.

maybes we could call this type of media "VIDIO" if the term hasn't already been coined...

hi all,
i have a friend in miami that i stream to www.glitchradio.com. its a very basic site and the design is terrible but its functional. they use windows media service to stream and its quite easy. these steps:
1) install windows media service 9 (or above) - this contains the streaming service which connects to the server
2) get a webcam
3) instead of using vdj to do the stream to the server (its called a relay basically) you use WMP server to do it.
4) the WMP server is configured to use the input from your mixer, just as vdj does
i go several extra steps and use 2 laptops to do the job. i have a dedicated laptop to do the streaming from across the room. my alienware has vdj and runs winamp avs plugins also using the input from the mixer (the mixer output goes to both laptop inputs). so i run avs using the linein:// protocol in winamp so the video is synced to the sound. then i use the video output from the alienware to a projector and screen (its just a white bedsheet) which hangs behind the dj (camera in front). so from the camera you see the dj standing in front of a trippy background.
its by no means a work of art in this day and age of vjing, but it suits me fine and looks good on the stream....
