I noticed the new cover funtion now included in VDJ5 which I'm planning to upgrade to.
1. What exactly is the function of this? To be able to do a visual look up of your tracks just like browsing you old vinyls in the box?
2. I really like the idea of displaying the covers as video output, is it also possible? I think it would be a nice feature in combination with real videoclips. When you don't play a video you still have the static cover of the track on the video.
3. Does it work with both embedded (iTunes way) and seperate jpg files?
4. What are the resolution requirements/limitations? For viewing as video output a resolution of say 720x480 or 1024x768 is wanted.
5. I tought there was an automatic download function for the covers? How does it work? Where are the covers coming from and in which resolution? Where are they stored then? I can imagen that display a cover for browsing is something else that showing it on the video output, resolution wise then.

Did I say something wrong, or is the intrest in or use of this cover function only minimal?

li125.

well, as i interpret it, its like flipping through your record crate. as a long time vinyl junkie, i found it hard and unnacceptable to move to cds because there is not the same visual way of organizing yourself. i really didnt know the artists and track titles, but i remember the sleeve color and associate that with the sound on it.

so you have these covers defined per track, there is a little circle thingy at the top right of the track library where you can turn the covers on. you will see the cover art on the currently selected track and previous and next tracks are all slotted in, much like pulling one vinyl out of your box. as you move up and down in the library, the middle art changes accordingly.

this is actually a great way to maintain visual association with files. but in the last year, ive retrained my brain how to associate my files and i use folder organization to do the job that i used to do in my record boxes.

i think the feature is great, but until certain things are changed about skins, i dont use it. the track library is small as it is and even smaller with the cover art showing. if the library part was expandable, like any window, this would be stellar....

anyhow, thats how i see it. its a great feature, especially since now you can tote 10's of thousands of tracks around with you at any given moment.

It's another good feature that makes this software so good,

I personal don't use it, but others might.

I have to agree with Paz.
Its a nice feature, but it would be nice if the song list area was expandable, or perhaps like winamp that can be detached and moved around to where you want it, that would be a cool feature.
I personally dont use that cover art feature either.

thanks for the reply's guys but as you all not use this cover function I didn't get any further info on my questions. I was hoping to get some feedback from somebody who do use this function. Are there any?

well you can try it out with the demo, but to directly answer your questions:

there is a utility to help download the files by some popular websites, it creates a file with the same name next to the mp3, so its not embedded. the image is only roughly 120x120 pixels so its not high detail.

i have not tried putting a larger file there yet, so im not sure how it behaves.

i dont use video, so i dont know what it does, but i will assume you need to screenshot it and create the cover art yourself
