Hi folks,
I'm looking to upgrade from my Hercules MK2. Its been great as an entry package. Really great in fact for the price.
But now I have a bit more cash and want to get something a bit more professional. I play in bars and clubs and plug my herc into the house mixer and use that so essentially its just being used as a soundcard in that situation.
At home I don't have an external mixer so I use my herc and virtual dj to record mixes or broadcast on internet radio. Its canes my processor quite a bit at times (and rumbles slightly when eq'ing tracks that have been pitched up or down).
So I am unsure whether I should just buy an external mixer (the hardware can take away some of the strain on my processor) and plug the herc into it. I can't afford to upgrade my laptop right now. I'm running on a Dell Inspiron 510M which has 512MB Ram. The problem being that for recorded mixes or internet broadcast it only picks up what happens through the herc and not through the external (if this is not the case then please let me know a way round it).
If I don't go for the external mixer then what would be the best all in one piece of kit for my needs? I could probably push up to £250 or more. Obviously if I was getting an external mixer I might need to spend a bit more.
I'd like something with a pre amped mic built in if possible for my radio show as the herc mk2 doesn't seem to have a pre amp mic.
Might consider the Behringer BCD3000 but I can afford more than that so what would the next level up be?
Cheers.
Bob

Oh yeh I should mention that the processor is 1.33GHz.
Dunno how I missed that off the first post.

Perhaps you might want to look into the VCI 100, maybe you can spend a little cash and upgrade your laptop to 1GB of RAM.

more ram would probly be your best bet and i do belive , but not for sure, that the ram is user installiable. and if able jump to 2 gigs and this will not put so much strane on the prosser tring to use page file buffer zone and just uses the ram stictly.

The VCI 100 looks really sweet. Cheers.
I'm not sure that I can upgrade the RAM in my laptop.
Does anyone know if its possible to upgrade Dell laptops?

OK I have found that I can get this:
http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/products/Memory_Upgrades/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=A0712618&mfgpid=3619#Overview
Which will add 1GB to my RAM to take it up to 512MB
I don't have a clue if I can fit that myself though. Never been inside my laptop before.

Try this... http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ it will scan your PC and tell you what kind and how much memory you can use.

That scanner is brilliant.
Right it seems I have 2 slots with 256MB Ram in each. So I can upgrade to 2 x 1GB RAM and get a 2BG total.
Bit nervous about doing it myself but there is a good installation guide on that site so I think I might give it a bash.
Thanks a lot guys.
So once I get my RAM able to cope with the applications I should be good to go with all in one controllers.
Any advances on the VCI 100?

I upgraded my dell from 1 gig to 2 gig. I takes a matter of 5 min to do. Very easy it just pops out and the new ones in. Are you looking for an external mixer of a controller?

Thats good news jimspinnin. Cheers.
I'm not sure if I want to go for an external mixer really. If the extra ram sorts out my processor problems then I think I might just upgrade my herc to a better all in one controller.
That VCI 100 looks really good. Does anyone have experience of it? Or has anyone upgraded their Hercs?
