I've had my Sony MDR-V700 headphones for 3 years, and one of the sides busted loose when they fell off my desk the other night. They still work, but the housing snapped on one of the ears so it dangles on the wire. I'm guessing that it's probably easiest to just buy new headphones.
The Sony headphones have a decent quality sound. I would rather pay money for quality than get cheap earphones. Anyone have any suggestions to good headphones to get?

Get the Technics RP-DH 1200. Great headphones for DJ mixing use with a high and clear bass output. Get them from somewhere like Guitar Center, pay 15 bucks for the performance plan and if they break you get a new pair. I'm very rough on phones and everytime I break them I get a new pair. 3 in 2 years all for the price of 1.

an ounce of prevention, etc. etc...
have had the same two pair of the Sony's in the booth for almost 3 years now - one for computer, one for mixing board. they've been dropped, kicked, thrown, and other wise mistreated. havent been able to break them yet. if you've comfortable with them, stick with what you know. and if you shop around online you can find them new for under 60$ U.S.
but yeah, the technics are pretty sweet too.

i have the pioneer hdj-1000. best dj headphones i've ever bought, quite rugged and very loud (dangerously so if ur not careful). i broke them them last month exactly the same way. just used some crazy glue and they're perfectly fixed and continuing in my 3rd year of abuse :-)

I did a test once by buying some middle of the road headphone and seeing how long they lasted! I did not abuse them in any way just used them normally, I noted that I was going through three pairs a year. Note: It's wasn't just the build of the cheapies that was bad but the quality of the sound also.
3 X cheap headphone in one year = more money than a pair of sony or technics that will last 3 years and sound good also. That was my conclusion.

I have been using Sony for years. I still use my MDR-V6 headphones for use on Radio...and they are 20 years old. Its personal taste, buy the ones you like, but don't go low end. Buy deep and go long....you'll be glad you did in the long run.

if you want to make a real investment both as a dj and lover and listener of music, you could try the custom molded earplugs.
even easier yet, the earbud phones. theyre really great because they require very little noise to get into your brain, save your hearing and sound better than any cans can possibly ever sound.
ive bought early this year a pair of custom moulded ones with twin drivers and i never leave home without them. i still dj with my pioneer cans though. its actually a bit of a trip getting used to djing with earplugs. i personally like to be able to shift them around my head so i can have the monitor sound bleeding through. but have spun with them a few times and find they are really a charm. perfect for that club where the sound is so loud and revererant that it splits your head. i also fly with them and just smile when i see people wingeing from screaming children...

The old skool sony's were made out of metal

I use Sennheiser's HD 25SP, quite basic in design, but they do Kick ass, still. Had mine for 8 years now, only had to change the cable once. Never let me down. You can pick a pair up for about £90.
I would recommend them over any other phones.

yeah, i used sennheisers for about 8 years before switching to pioneer. the senn's have removable plugs which is a fantastic feature. usually its the end of the cord that goes first, then here i am trying to solder microbraid. :-S
truthfully though, I dropped the senns, i need donut cans because i need to often sheild a blaring club, and i never know what my environment is going to be like. but senns are defintiley good quality phones

good idea, do they replace even if it's cracked?

The Technics are nice headphones but after my second pair in 12 months i said enough is enough. The Sony V700 and Pioneers are better in terms of durability and if you want really durable looks at the AKG headphones with a 3 year unconditional warranty and lots of metal parts on them.

Ultrasone's DJ1 Pro or DJ1 are the way to go.. Read about them on the Ultrasone's website. I have three pairs of Ultrasone headphones and even after hours of use the sound doesn't drown out. Your ears don't get tired! At least mine haven't.
