Sujet: First night out with VDJ a complete success!

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Hi Folks,

A couple nights ago I wrote to say that last night (Friday) would be my first night out using VDJ. All the trouble I had trying to get the music ripped, compressed and organized payed off. VDJ 5.05 worked flawlessly. I did have one problem that almost stopped me from being able to use the computer at all though, When I set everything up, the last thing i did was to plug my M-Audo 410 interface into my mixer. As soon as I did, I got a very loud high pitched noise that was there even with the volume sliders turned down on the mixer. I removed the connection, tried my Cd players and everything was fine. I re-connected the 410 and there was that dreaded noise again. It was not a 60 cycle hum but a harmonic of it. I started to panic as all the Xmas music was on the hard drive. I then tried the headphone jack on the computer itself and got the same noise. Thinking it was a ground loop somewhere I started removing ground connections. I tried the mixer first but no joy. then out of sheer frustration I tried the laptop power supply. BINGO the noise was gone. It was a 3 prong unit. As soon as I put a 3 to 2 adapter on it, the noise was gone. The rest of the night went very well with the software functioning exactly as it should. What a joy it was to be able to find selections or even change them, almost instantly. I've only done about a quarter of my collection but I can hardly wait to finish it all.

I'm, sure this info is in the archives somewhere but if you get a serious howl coming from the system when you connect up your laptop, try removing the ground off the power supply.

Thanks for your time,

DGee
