I have a crappy computer at my club and it won't really work with VDJ too well. Anytime I try to adjust tempo or cue the other side the track that is playing gets all jumpy. HOWEVER, I'd like to try to record from my regular cd players thru my mixer back to VDJ. MY QUESTION, my sound guy says that I need an external sound card plug it into USB and and mixer and voila! Does this sound right and what kind of external soundcard do you recommend?

let me confirm. you want to record your set back through vdj? but you also notice that playing tracks from vdj on the crappy machine aint so good... so instead you will use normal CD decks to the mixer and you want to record the whole set... did i get that right?
ideally what the dude said to you is correct... however, how did they connect vdj to the mixer in the first place? and is it only one channel or two? probably they already have a soundcard which has two stereo outputs for channel 1 and 2?
to record, yes, you need 1 stereo input on the computer sound card open and connected to the master out of the mixer.
however, if you already find that playback from vdj is jumpy, you dont want to playback and record at the same time cuz it will all just get worse...
if you are _only_ going to record the set, you can do that from vdj, but you could use any program to record the input since you wouldnt be using vdj for playback, if you get what i mean. but yeah, there is a REC tab in vdj, set it to File and open the config window. You will choose the input for recording and if it's all setup it should work.
NOW.,... i use vdj to broadcast, but i never use it to record. from a club its okay, but generally i want to see the levels, so i use something like wavelab. but anyways, this is a club machine so probably best to use what they got and not rock the boat too much...
hope this helps

Hey Paz thanks for the response. Yeah, I had tried setting up using A serato SL1 and using my timecoded cd's with Axis9 players. No dice. Then I was trying it with a DAC2 that was installed with PCDJ on their computer. (Which runs fine except that it is PCDJ) That sort of works. Whenever I try to set a cue point or otherwise manipulte a track while something is playing, I get a jumpy skippy response. But i thought that it might handle a recording. (I know I need a laptop), I just need advice on the proper external sound card.
Thanks for any input.
