Sujet: Small space projector setup using PVC... - Page: 1

Cette partie de ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes

Here is a picture of a small screen ,rear projection setup I just finished making for some of the small venue parties I do. Its made up of 1" pvc, super light and strong and the screen is made od Spandex with sewn hems to slide over the upright tubes.
I am going to paint it a textured black to somewhat hide the white structure underneath.
Works excellent!
Using an acrylic mirror to reflect back onto the screen.Small pieces of velcro will be used to tighten screen just a bit to look good.
Total depth length is 3' and I end up with a 3' x 30" visual for music videos! that can stay right by my side or send it to any part of the room..vga cord allowing of course.

COOL!!!!

That is some nice thinking Mcgyver.

I just finished painting it a textured flat black and now it looks much better then that bright white.Using some velcro on the top and bottom now allows me to tighten up the screen even better then before and takes only minutes to totaly disassemble for transport. Will post a new pic soon.

bloody hell

you weren't a plumber in a previous life were you... nice job

No it won't be backwards the projector is ment to be projected from the front so the immage will be the proper way around when reflected to the back of the screen.

The projector has features in it where you can reverse the image just for rear projecting.
Most if not all projectors usually can do this if its fairly new.
Im not a plumber by trade..but have apprenticed for awhile and some things do stick!

well come and sort my central heating out will you please, the numb nut that came out the other day has left it in a worse state and we have no hotwater or heating this weekend

Very Creative!

I use my big screen I bought from DJSCREEN.COM for my outdoor gigs during the warmer weather and this seems to fit the bill for those smaller events and every so often those family gathering parties who require a screen and they drag in there own laptops and crappy speakers to show some homemade slide show they put together.
With a bit of a heads up notice to me I can even make them a nice video show out of there pics for them and display it for them with there music choice!
oh well....
Thanks for looking

Yeah that looks good,

any plans to make a bigger one, also would a glass mirror be better to bounce the image onto the screen.

jimmy b,
Through my experience of building cockpits for flight simulation and using this technique for small spaces..I would suggest acrylic over glass just because of safety issues and having it break.I need this for mobile gigs and didnt want to worry about breaking anything plus you can drill into it if needed.
Glass and acrylic can sometimes give you this "ghosting effect" if you try to bounce the image from a greater distance. The ghosting effect is caused by having the reflective material on the mirror being applied on the back and having the light travel through the glass on the front of it to your sceen. You start to get the ghosting effect over longer distances in which case you are better off projecting directly to the screen.
You can aquire acrylic mirrors with the reflective applied on the front but it can be a little difficult to find and also a bit more expensive.Check local plastic supply houses or sign companies.
With what I have done here I can go bigger without losing quality if I choose but I needed something that would work for me in a small area
but still bigger then a large monitor.
This can also be built to suspend from a ceiling with some enginuity on your part.
Whats nice about the acrylic is you can bend or stretch the image if desired by ever so slightly bending the mirror for a wider view or taller view.

my biggest expense was having the seams made!! total cost of supplies $40

Right, cool Lineman55.

I think this is a good piece of handy work and I bet it's saved you a few ££££££'s.

Hope you have a copyright or patent pending on it because I might know somebody who will be using your idea and design, lol ;)

hows the cost verses a couple of 42 inch lcds?

Just curious, Is that comparing the same thing?

The cost cant even compare to 2 42" monitors. They start at $900 and skyrocket from there. Thats cool if you own a club and you have the space for multiples I suppose.I dont want to carry around and worry about that unit being so fragile as they are.I dont have any overhead light structures to secure it either.
Projector $600 4 yrs old now
PVC and glue $30
Spandex material $ 14 per yard

='s a 36" x 32" screen for your viewing pleasure!

its light and disassembles in minutes
chassis is 3' deep x 1' wide
screen slides on and off the PVC with ease

lineman

why slide the screen off after use, keep it on the top and bottom pipes and remove the side pipes and roll the screen round the pipe and it will stop it from getting creased

actually I found one for just about 150 more then your projector. I was just curious I think its a great idea, but for me mobile setup space is at a premium couple of these vizo 42 inch lcds (759) on a pair of vertically mounted unlighted box trusses would look pretty sweet.
