Hey all,
With my Audio8 soundcard, i have some options in the asio driver, to change latency settings, about 5 or 6 presets. From high latency with low CPU usage, to low latency with high CPU usage.
Now i am wondering how to get the best latency settings out of VDJ, with the most stability.
I tried some settings, and at a decent setting, i have about 30% CPU usage, while playing 2 tracks together, with 2 timecode cd's running.
The next step with even lower latency, wil put my CPU usage around 50-60%, and when i push it even further, it'll be at 70-80% CPU usage while playing 2 tracks controlled by timecode.
When i load a track, the CPU does jump to 100% for a sec, but that is even at the highest latency setting, so normal behavior i guess.
Now my question is, will VDJ be playing rock solid stable, when i pick the setting with very low latency, and have 70-80% cpu usage all the time?
Or should i be safe, and take a setting with less CPU usage, but a bit more latency. (which for me, is noticeable, especially when cue'ing)
btw, i run VDJ on a dualcore centrino laptop, with 2Gb ram.

You are the only one that can answer this question, it's your machine. You will have to run your own test, to see which works better for you. I don't care if my machine runs at high cpu, as long as it continues to play.

It depends what else is running on the machine, technically, 100% all day should be fine, but this is the real world and it's a bit like your sound system, or car. We need to leave some headroom for "peaks", and of course "overtaking". Or for other processes to catch up!
I always aim to leave 50% free on average, leaving a nice safe margin available. Had no problems so far.
Just remember to do your best to keep it cool.
