Greetings fellow digital spinners.
This is musicman from new mexico with a quick question. How many of u use the hercules MKII as a main mixing unit, and
r u happy with the sound that the sound card puts out. I am considering buying the new RMX unit that is comming but do
not have any experience with these types of units. Is the MKII an easy unit to use and what are some of the issues you
all have ecountered with the unit. I have gotten some great advice from this forum and value your opinion's. I continue to
learn something new everytime i visit this forum. Rock on VDJ.
thanks

I'm very happy with my mk2, and have been since I brought it.
The soundcard is good, not perfect thought, but what is. The mk2 and VirtualDJ seem to be good together aswell, the only thing that lets it down to other controllers is that the Buttons, jogs and sliders are too close together. that's my only grape about it
I'm will certainly be purchasing the RMX when it arrives in the UK.

I have owned both the original DJ console and the MKII. I used it for mobie and club gigs. I never really had any operational issues with it. It is a little delicate and you have to really take care of it. It is not as rugged as normal equipment.
I did not utilize a mixer, I hooked up the MKII to my laptop and since the MKII is not pre amped I used a BBE sonic max sound processor to clean up and stablize the sound. I would recommemd you get on if you are not going to use a mixer. i also had to use a ground adapter on my laptop power cord to elimintate and hissing or anoying background noise. you will find when you do gigs that not all places you go to have there power lines grounded properly.
The only draw back I did not like about it as mentioned before that it was so small. It is well worrth the money.

Also worth mentioning is that the Mic output level is way to low too the point of it being virtually useless. (You need you channel faders right down and the MIC voulme at full just to be able to get people to hear you)
However, all in all, for your money, you get alot. A sound card, a Midi Controller and A Mixer (which excepts external inputs).
If you want all those elements in one reliable unit at an extermely reasonable price, you can't go wrong. However if you need just one aspect, then i feel you'd you'd be better off spending your money on somethng which is dedicated to that one specific function.

Ditch the MKII and get a Denon DN-HC4500 for VDJ instead, I found myself outgrowing the MKII rather quickly and the sound quality is definitely not the greatest.

How long have you been DJ'ing?
What level are you at?
What other DJ equipment have you used before?
What do you need out of a controller? Scratch? Mixer? dual deck only?
The MK2 is perfect for some, trash for others, so it's worth telling us a bit more about yourself and what you want from it.

I find the MK2 to be a great, albeit "little" mobile unit, despite the microphone shortcomings. As I practiced with it, the size became a non-issue, more or less. I connect the main output through my mixer (mostly for the EQs on the external). Sounds good this way, and seems pretty solid from a control perspective. I did have mine replaced under warranty because of a loose internal card (suggested by Hercules support), but it never stopped working :) The "new generation" model seems better than its predecessor, and the RMX is touted to be better still, not to mention roomier ;)
The major drawback on the MK2, I think, is the USB 1.0 interface. This may be the major bottleneck for the native ASIO drivers as well.

The New RMX looks great. I might jump on that myself. I had Mic problems with my MKII, but fixed it with an impedance converter for my microphone. The MKII input is High impedance, but the Mic I got was a low impedance mic, Radio Shack or the internet has adapters that will let you match those up and it makes a big difference in the output level. You want a "low to high" impedance matcher.
I've found the MKII works best with the VDJ software it came with (3.4). I've been having a boatload of troubles trying to get the MKII to work acceptably with V5, sound quality definately being one of the major issues. Where 3.4 and the MKII sounds all in all very good, the MKII on v5 Pro sounds extremely bad, to the point where I would not subject my listeners to it...
I know Herc just released the RMX, anybody know any retail channels in the US that are carrying it yet?

i am just a weekend dj whose does a lot of weddings and b-days. i stay pretty busy.
i use a couple of mackie 450's,a numark cd mix 2, and a dell inspiron e1750 lap top.
it doesnt sound like much of a system but trust me i rock the house with this system.
i am basiclly looking for a decent sound card and a mixer that i can use to pre-listen
to my music before i play it.

I saw three holes on the side... you think it's going to be rack/case mountable? I hope so.
