Sujet: does "xml" file open with internet explorer??

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

backed up virtualdjxml.5 file to external hard drive, but when i try to open or explore it (from my pc or the external hard drive), it opens with internet explorer. My internet explorer is corrupt, and locks up my computer before it ever opens. I dont ever get online with the computer that my vdjpro is on, so i have never fixed the "internet explorer" problem. will i have to fix this problem with internet explorer to succesfully reload my database if needed?? I guess i just need some re-assurance that i'm backing up my database correctly, since i can't open the file with the default internet explorer to verify its done corect...

If you want to edit your data base you need to open it in notepad.

Internet explorer wont be able to understand it.

i did that, but it was all just garble. IE is the default program that it opens with when i try to open and examine it..when you save your database, is your defult program IE? mine is.

XML is a flat file format for storing data and most commonly used in Web Application development that is why the Windows OS environment automatically associates XML files to Internet Explorer as the default viewing application. However, XML is also a very efficient data storage format that is used with desktop applications - like VirtualDJ. So even though IE is set as the default viewing application, it is not the correct application in this case. If you are going to 'look' or 'edit' (neither are recommended, unless you know what XML coding is and know it's standards) then you need to utilize an ASCII based editor like Notepad.

So why is it necessary for you to look at the database files ?

cuz i backed up the database file to an external hard drive on a regular basis, but always just assumed i was doing it correctly. then, recently, my laptop hard drive took a poop on me and im now in the process of getting it fixed. but theres a good chance my hard drive will be eraticated, leaving only my backed up database to install on my laptop when i get it back from the repair shop..i just wanted to check the files and make sure it was ok.. while i've got your help, when i get my laptop back and re-download virtual dj pro, how do i get the program to recognize the backed up database?? just copy and paste it into the virtual dj folder, and delete the default database?? and do i have to have my music on the laptop first like i did before i had the hard drive problem so the database has a file path to recognize??

Yes, Yes and Yes. All are a good things to have in place and done.

one last question... i have a party to dj in a few days, but i prob wont have my laptop back by then.. my friend has virtual dj on his laptop, but its not the pro edition like mine is..If i install my music on his hard drive, can i then install my database file into his virtual dj folder, or will the two not be compatible since mine is version 5 and his is just the regular version. This way i can just use his program as if it were my own!!

The V5 database is only compatible with Version5 -- now what to you mean the 'regular' one? Are you referring to the version that comes with the MK2 ? If so, then it's still a 'no' as that is version 3.4.1
