Sujet: Beatlock jumping?

The beatlock works fine if I hit it AFTER hiting PLAY. But why is it that when I engage BEATLOCK before the mix, and I hit PLAY pretty darn close to the downbeat, that it very often jumps to a neighboring beat to sync to? Shouldn't it lock to the closest beat that it's next to when I hit PLAY? Is this possibly a settings issue?
