It's not how they look on the outside. Let me give you an example, RuPaul.

RuPaul?
Posté Wed 05 Mar 08 @ 4:22 pm
hahaha!!
what he means is that RuPaul, is a woman on the outside, but she was born a male..
those speakers might look like Cerwin Vega's on the outside, but certainly wont sound like Cerwin Vega's on the inside.
Cerwin Vega dont make speakers for other prople. (or not that i Know of)
If youre thinking of buying these online to save a bit of mopney, i'd look elsewere.
but if get the opportunity to see and hear these speakers in a shop then i'd deffinately want to check them out..

Nice one Mark for clearing that one up for me, thought this was an American thing but you live less than 2hrs from me in the UK. Must be because I don't watch TV.

hmm. i would have used a better analogy...
tribute bands...
they sound the same, they look the same, but are not the same inside!!
Razorlight have a tribute act called Lazerlight
Oasis have No Way Sis
you get the picture now?
if you want quality sound, then go for a well known brand name.
but if budget is an issue (and it could always be once you pay for the rest of your gear)
... then get cheep speakers to start off with, and once the bills are paid, and money saved, you will be able to get better speakers in the future..

well more to the point, the link shows the 3rd gen version of what i have.
mine are much older and are in a wooden enclosure with carpet covering. they have cast iron internal frame which gives them support and weight.
mine are not the plastic coated ones from the website.
this is exactly what i have here
and when i need something smaller, i have 2 12in 300w speakers for small venues.

The ones you have are better than the later model. Iv had both and now wish I had kept my originals.
Posté Wed 05 Mar 08 @ 6:54 pm
ye. im gona keep mine.
there have been times when theyve been in storage (for sometimes 6mnths), but ive always kept them in a nice warm part of the house.
you never know when you'll need them.
if i need to use anything bigger though, i just borrow off of other local DJs (as you do).
