I will be honest, if u havent seen DJnutz's setup u should look at it. He doesnt need tables as he uses touch screens as the tables and I hear he is damn good.

i have the oodj touchscreen system and its been great i use it with a dac 3 and you can do some fancy mixing with two options to control the decks
never the same as technics 12's but you can teach yourself more tricks to compensate and create good effects.

every stage of technology has been ridiculed by small minded people who cant see possibility and progression. i will respect you just the same if you use a touch screen or decks, its all about the quality of the ouptut and nothing else.

if you use turntables and ridicule others as not being a real dj, but you dont actually use turntables for what it can do that other things cant (turntablism) then ur a hypocritical fool

Not quite sure why the turntableists have such a problem with this. Put a touch screen with a custom skin in between 2 tt's with time coded vinyl and the possibilities are endless.

i use a touch screen and mixstation 4.1 skin and it works great.

i find that the touch screen is a step ahead of having to use a mouse in that you use a mouse to click things on the screen, you can do it faster with one finger.

certainly with a touch screen, you cannot scratch and move the crossfader at the same time! but you cannot do it with a mouse either!!

one thing i would like to do, is to have an onscreen keyboard. windows has a small keyboard in the accessability options, but its a bit too small to use with your finger (IMO)

could a popup keyboard be added to the current skins? or maybe i should post this into the skins forum and hope someone will pick up on this in several weeks??

I want to say that I have used everything from cassette tapes to a pc to entertain with. I have used turntables as well. I will hardly ever scratch more than maybe a backspin. The crowds I entertain don't want me screwing up their music. They want to dance and sing along. There is a time and place for both the beatmixing DJ and the turntablist. Turntablists that look down on the rest of us are just mad they aren't working as much. For me, my touchscreen system mimics a 2 turntable setup. I can do similar things that I could do with actual vinyl. It's not the same, but it is close. The upside is that the only moving parts in my whole rig are 4 hard drives and 4 cooling fans. Not only that, but I have enough space that my custom skin has buttons to operate just about every single effect and option for VDJ without having to switch to a different window. I also have an onscreen keyboard. There are a number of programmable keyboard softwares available. The one I have has a key to open up my audio card's mixer controls, and a button to open my light software. The keyboard can be minimized and when small it has a button to maximize it and a button for the lights...check prodjpc.com for video footage

hi, ive had a mooch around the net for onscreen keyboards, and most are way too small to press with fingers. they are all geared to be used with a mouse, or maybe tablet pc.

im looking for one that would be big enough to type with on a 19in screen, but would auto minimise after 1 or 2 seconds, or as you mention, you have an icon for the minimised keyboard.

@djnutz > ive seen your videos and i like the way your screen looks un-clutererd with un-needed buttons. did you design your own screen? which keyboard are you using??

i'd love to get one of those touch-panel pcs, but ive already spent my money on the hardwear. (PC, touch screen, harddrives, etc..)

I did create the custom skin...2 weeks of blood, sweat, and tears went into it's design. I am working to add additional buttons for more video effects. The keyboard software I use is this:

Depending on which touchscreen you have, ProDJPC might be able to sell just the chassis and faceplate. Then you could take the guts out of the case you have and put them in the ProDJPC box. That's assuming the screen will fit of course....

It couldn't hurt to ask.... www.prodjpc.com

I'm told there is a milisecond delay with t/screen? this would be a problem for me as would the occasional miss-touch experienced on pub games machines. Were it not for these issues I would have invested in a touch screen (despite the costs) rather than my most excellent DAC-2. Naturally I use an external mixer as I cannot work without one.

I strongly dissagree that turntablists attract respect. In an age when it seems everyone has tried their hand at DJing at some point, my fully loaded rack drops more jaws than my SL1200's ever did. I gave them up when Pioneer made a CD system truly DJ Friendly with "Remain Time" & "Track Only." 14 Vinyl cases goto 2 CD boxes. VDJ enabled the next step when I found a replica Pioneer skin for it. 2 boxes goto a cigarette packet with seemingly 5 billion track capacity. I will be up for the next best thing too if it makes setting up and breaking down quicker, easier and lighter.
A pro DJ since 1980 I know that paying customers want their dancefloor kept full and don't give a stuff for fancy and very 80's ego trippin' handwork. To make a living in this job you keep that floor full all night! Therein lies the skill and the wages.

DJ's are two a penny because the kit is so cheaply built in China thesedays. VDJ and a new PC will cost less than the whole caboosh did 20 years ago. The only issue I have is, yes, a mouse is required which is not so fashionable. My opinion is a good and instant touch-screen would obviate the need for a mouse, Ext controller and possibly a keyboard too. For the moment and for me VDJ has extended my DJ career and been kind to my back. For now at least Virtual DJ is King.

do you know... thats just what ive been looking for.

customisable keyboard.

i'll give prodjpc a try to see if i can get 'just the box'

thanks :)
