Interesting great find. Glad I am an ATI user:)

nVidia always had the best driver suite. It's Vista which is a sh*t, nVidia rocks :D (on Linux :P)

You know Brian...play with it too much you could go blind......

All the chart shows is that of all crashes 29% of them happened on a system with a NVIDIA gfx card. It does not say, imply or mean that in each case the NVIDIA drivers are in fact at fault or even related to the crash..

If the drivers aren't the reason for the crash then what would be? The article is implying that Nivdia's Vista drivers are crap. Without the driver, Windows could care less about the hardware even being there. It's a well known fact that driver support early on in Vista just plain sucked, and in some respects, it still does. That is why my feet are firmly planted on the ground of XP. I will keep using it until I can do everything with the same software in Linux. Every release of Windows becomes more and more like bloatware.

Exactly my point. The chart shows that 29% of the crashes happens on systems with NVIDIA hardware/drivers. It does not say nor imply that the crash is actually caused by it. It could well be the same crash would occur if the exact same system had an ATI card..

I have been on VISTA since day1, well over a year now. I have not ever had any serious issues or crashes. But then again I maintain my system pretty well and make sure I always have latest drivers and software updates.

win xp + nvidea no problem

That is pretty far fetched. It says exactly what it says, 29% of Vista crashes are related to Nvidia drivers, 18% to Microsoft itself, and only 9% to ATI drivers.

And that is by the way, pretty coherent with reports on gamer forums, as well as VDJ website & e-service ;)

given that microsoft can in second place, it also has something to do with the stacks that maybe causing crashes with nvidia inside. having used both of them, the nvidia drivers are pretty feature-rich and heavy with infterface whereas ati is simpler and with less frills. its silly to just say that nvidia is bad because of this. it does mean that nvidia needs to work on it though for sure. vista has been pretty crappy for a long time.

Hey guys,

We use both nVidia & ATI cards in our machines with no real problem.

The only thing i have noticed is the nVidia cards seem to drag alot more from the CPU of the machines and can be a little more tricky to set up the second video out how you like it. even on our high end machines.

I personally prefer the ATI as the interface is easy to use and very easy to explain to the staff if they are having issues with video out. and the reduced CPU usage is always good.

Just a really dumb thought but here goes... I thought Nvidia actually has a larger percentage of ownership than AIT which kinda relates to the level of failures with Vista. In other words, there are more drivers out for Nvidia so you are going to have more failures...

My stuff works great...

Good point ;)

But how valid it is, is another discussion. Not sure if the large differences in crash % can be excused by Nvidias larger markedshare alone..

Ati has ruled graphics for a long time, but from 2006-2007 the devide between ATI and Nvidia is almost equal.
And if one looks at the total markedshare [desktops, laptops, pcs and macs] Nvidia is clearly in the lead, but this is only for last part of 2006...
