Sujet: Just convince a Serato to download VDJ

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I was I Circuit City to get my computer' oil change and have the tire kicked ( stream lined ) and the person who usually helps me get what I needed started asking me about dj business. We did the usual small talk until the subject changed to software. He talked about his Serato but he started to feel limited and how wasn't going to spend the extra dollars for the video plug-in. I had him plug up my machine so he can do a test drive. I did everything possible to show him the love that VDJ gives us. I shared how it's designed for the user and not the mass of one.

He threw on some speakers and we were mixing and cutting. I did every plug-in and combination then I showed him the amount of strain my computer used - 15% the most.

He said that as soon as he got home he would download the demo and ask as many question on the forum.

hehe.. nice one ;) Come to VDJ, we have better cookies...hehe

but no video tag support...

WE NEED IT!!

OK, I am gonna ask. What the puck is tag support, audio or video, and why do we need it? What am I missing out on? By the way, I am serious, I don't have the faintest clue.

ok...

you know how you can tag your MP3 files with BPM's, artist, album, etc...
well.. you CAN do the same with MP4 VIDEO files!!!

If you get your new video to add to your library and TAG it... & VDJ scans for the TAG INFO... you wouldn't have to scan it to have false bpm's and rename things.. or put info in the fields like comments, etc.. you can have that on the video file itself...

just the same as MP3 Tagging is important... MP4 tagging is important..

You can actually edit your TAG's for MP4 video in Tag&Rename.

Serato Video supports MP4 tagging. I can have all my videos imported into Serato and it will read all the info I put in in the appropriate fields!

NEED IT!!

In order to stay AHEAD and cutting edge with video... that would be HUGE!!!

I can't believe I am the only one who sees this.... wow..

The reason it is not a 'big' issue for VirtualDJ users, it that everything is stored in the VirtualDJ database. We have been ahead of the game for a long time. The only reason even adding ID3Tag support was critical is because that capability has been around for years. VirtualDJ has had video support for 4 years, always storing the information in the database. MP4 tagging is just it, MP4. You can not tag a mpeg1 or mpeg2 file. You can not tag a VOB, AVI, etc.

Since tagging is not common in all formats and since tagging would be no longer have a purpose once the information was in the VirtualDJ Database, how can you say that it is a priority for any application. Serato uses it to have that 1 extra edge - but how many video formats work in their solution that support the same tagging capability?

I just don't see the priority. Yes, a good future capability. Just not an immediate necessity.

But, I don't want to hijack a very positive thread.... And, hope to see the new guy soon...

yes you can..

if you own tag&rename.. try it.

if it doesn't matter about the tagging then why did SO many users here beg and plead about the ID3 tag support?
Why not get a jump start and get a new standard with video...?

or will it be version 8 by the time that happens?

it took 5 versions of VDJ to get to ID3 tags?

ID3 tags have been around since... well.. forever!! I was tagging back in the PCDJ red days...

Tagging is a very useful tool and shouldn't be looked as not important. I have had the VDJ database get corrupt and had to start ALL OVER AGAIN!
don't rely on something like the external file that can be misplaced, corrupted, etc. The tags stay with the file no matter where you place them an load them into the software.

but... who am I? whatever... I give up.

And all the other software applications relied on the ID3 Tagging in order for their applications to 'find' files and organize files. VirtualDJ has always relied on it's own solution which is far more flexible and efficient then having to query every file in a folder. Some of the reasons why other applications can not get as good as a response/performance in their search routines or offer capabilities like filter and virtual folders.

As for maintaining the databases, VirtualDJ has built in tools to FIX and CLEAN corrupt databases.

I am not saying that supporting video tagging standards are not important. I personally do not believe they are a priority. We have other pressing issues that need better support - all of which are well documented in the forums.

As for who you are... a user stating a desire. And who am I... just another user stating their perspective.
