Sujet: BEWARE BUG IN NVIDIA 9600 Drivers - [Solution Provided]

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Just had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE due to bug in the driver for Nvidia 9600 cards. My test computer runs at 1600x1200 resolution and I needed to use it because the video card in my main computer died on me and I did not have the time to get it replaced before my gig last night (both of these cards are only 2 weeks old).

This backup computer is running the new NVidia 9600 GT OC just installed 15 days ago, but has been running absolutely flaslessly UNTIL last night when I took it to my gig where the monitor has a max resolution of 1280x1024 (lcd screen). Normally the video card drivers are supposed to recognize the maximum resolution and adjust accordingly (they alway have with every NVidia card I ever owned). Last night it did NOT. When windows booted up the screen just showed an error message "Video Out Of Bounds" and with no tech support for Nvida available at 10pm at night and after calling every computer guy I know and nobody answering the phone I was SCREWED.

Finally got a hold of the manufacture of the card this morning and they told me there was a bug in the driver for these cards and they are supposed to but do NOT recognize the monitor resolution most of the time....needless to say my video card was trying to display 1600x1200 on a 1280x1024 monitor...no can do, and no way to fix it until I could reconnect to a 1600x1200 display............way to go NVIDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had to do the whole show on a backup laptop we had with us which for some still unknown reason would not show the external output (Kept freezing everytime a new video loaded and then the picture would juts disapear). Needless to say the club manager was really pissed because they really wanted to "see the video thing".

Lesson learned, if you need to move a computer to a different monitor from now on I will reduce it to the native vga 800x600 before moving it as I won't always know what resolution the other monitor is capable of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XP/Vista: Use VGA Mode to Troubleshoot Monitor Refresh Rate Problems

Have you ever accidentally set Window's resolution or refresh rate to a level that was not supported by your monitor, only to find that you could not change it back since the screen had become an unreadable mess? This annoyance remains one of Window's biggest hidden booby traps, especially for users with older monitor hardware.

Setting the refresh rate or resolution higher than your monitor can display will result in a garbled or blank screen, and a huge headache if you accidentally keep the settings. Fortunately Windows XP includes an easy way to reverse monitor resolution problems in the form of 'VGA mode.'

The VGA mode option on the Windows advanced options screen (accessed by pressing F8 repeatedly as your computer is just starting up) will start Windows normally but with a basic VGA video driver at 640x480 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. Any VGA monitor can handle this, so you will be free to go back into display settings and change them to something your monitor can display properly.

To recap, if you can't see the screen in Windows XP due to refresh rate settings, reboot your system, pressing 'F8' repeatedly as the computer restarts. From the boot menu, choose 'enable VGA mode.' Once Windows starts up, go to the display settings and try a different resolution and refresh rate setting.

Have you tried the new Nivida 174.74 drivers that they just released. There are reports of numerous bug fixes in the new drivers.

CSTOLL....GREAT TIP, Why didn't tech support tell me you could do that? The unfortuanate part is this was an "audition gig" at a smaller venue which could have led to a residency at the owners bigger venue. They did like my show, just dissapointed I had to do it without video cause the backup laptop doesn't do video so hopefully I will get a do-over.

Luckily I don't take that machine to clubs often and hopefully the new drivers will fix the problem, I just down loaded them today.
