I've noticed a large amount of dance edits of classic rock songs coming out lately.
I was wondering from you video remix people out there. What are some hints to placing the dance remix as the audio in the classic rock video?
I know a lot of cutting and editing will be involved, but mainly I was wondering about making the mouth movements sync up to the audio .

I try to edit with a non mouth move shot or one that does not stand out as much and there quick cuts then its not as noticable. Usually only noticable to you and the experienced eyes. Remember who your playing the videos for - people who are not really paying too much attention and is just minorly focused on the screen. So I would say make quick edits like a magic - One hand distracts while the other manipulates the trick.

Four layers:
Original Video
Original Song accapella
Remixed Beat
effects (video and audio)
I agree with fatkat. Use fast clips of none singing face shots as much as you can until you can cut in the original sections that it shows them singing matched together. I hope that helped a little bit.

patience and perseverence are probably the two most important things you need to have is the best i can offer, other than that this is the way i make a remix be it the right or wrong way i wouldn't know
i first put the new audio track onto a timeline then the original video onto another, then split the audio from that onto another timeline play both together to see how near the track is in sync with the new mix, from there i start to cut and chop the original video and move it along the timeline so it will sync in with the new track, this is where you need those two qualities i was on about, i then take out the original audio, from there you will see spaces along your video timeline that you need to fill, i usually fill this with bits from the original video or you can choose to fill with something of your own choice... hope that helps you marcel in some way and your not now totally confused... lol

Similar here but depending on the project, I will play both videos or MP3 in VDJ to sync the songs up and record the session. Now you have a MP3 version and all you have to do is cut up the video to match the theme your looking for. This will make better editing for beats longer than 4 counts. This also allow me to place snip its of samples if I want to because I'm not worried about 2 massive song just one.
Doing this process also allow me to add 8,16,32 beat intros / outros and stay in concept of the project.

Actually what I want to do is this......
I have (or may have to get) the classic rock video AND a dance remix I like of the same song EX: Journey : Don't stop believing.
Both are complete on they're own.
What I want to do is remove the audio from the video (I can already do that) and place the dance edit in the video, and then I No longer have to link the 2 in VDJ (mainly cause the club edit is longer than the music video)
Just wanted some advice before spending hours and hours at my desktop, instead of at the gym.

If I'm not incorrect that song has an irregular beat because of long vocal intro. Once again I would match the audio with the video in VDJ but record only DANCE VERSION then you can replace the old with the new. Next fine tune the edits of the video. If this is the first real editing then it might take a little longer than expected. No worries I'm sure it will turn out. I personally think the hardest part is the audio. Once you get that then everything else falls in line.

My first attempt at layering a video with a club edit song.
Video: Hinder - Lips Of An Angel (purchased from iTunes)
Audio Track: Jason Nevins Rockdance radio edit
I captured the Video twice, once with audio and once without; from a sync dock and imported it into a video editing software.
Then it was trial and error till I got the audio and video to sync up as best I could.

Do they have a good club edit of save a horse?
I thought that song was fast approaching "Achy Breaky Heart" status :P

I can see me doing a whole bunch of these. I have a lot of remixes, (we all do) but it would make my sets at work look and sound nice to have even the video playing along to the club edit.
I think the next one will be a remix of Boney M I recently heard for Rasputine. I bought they're DVD - I didn't even know they actually produced a video for that song, must have been one of the fist music videos ever produced.

oh it's past achy breaky status and then some, but the wannabee walmart rednecks still ask for it... every freakin night since the damn thing came out. and PO has a 4 disc series of "best of country" that has 40 tracks per disc, and guess what came in the mail saturday, so i'll be ripping those in at work all day monday.
one of the discs also has a copy of the Lonestar "Amazed" video - could maybe use the club remix with that? who knows?
either way, still really great vid remix and looking forward to watching more.

Nice Job on the mixing.

I actually didn't do any mixing fats....
I took a remix I purchased, and layered it on the video. More editing I think.
