.....did I ever think I would need to do Karaoke, but one of the clubs I work for wants me to run the board for their new karaoke host night and they have charged me with the task of preparing the music for use on vdj.
I need to know what is a good program (hopefully freeware or inexpensive) to rip the files and I have heard that not all DVD drives will rip them. Is this true? If so anybody know if the HP DVD 840 will rip karaoke disc to mp3+cgd files? I have a program called SongVerter that does a nice job zipping them up, but I need a good and fast way to rip them.

MP3+G Toolz is also free, and can rip your media. It will also tell you if your drive can handle the process in terms of read / write. In my experience, most folks who are ripping cd+g are recommending Plextor drives because they apparently handle the media very well. In fact, most dvd drives (I'm told) won't work for this. Neither of mine do.

I'm in USA, Phoenix, AZ, first night was last week (host took WAY to long to set up and really couldn't handle running equipment and hosting so they roped me into running the music for him and he can just schmoooz on the mic). Audience is predominantley 25-35 upper middle class (household income starting at around $80,000+)...small lounge only holds 100 people (very few of which can sing)....he has about 500 discs........why, got some good ideas for us?
