Just knocked this up at work, 10 mins to design, got one of the machine operators to cut for me, then bent it into the stand. Made from 2mm Ali. Saved myself a few £££££'s
Here's what it looks like with the laptop on.
There space underneath it for all my maya44 and all the cables, I think it's not bad for a 1/2 hour work. The next version I make will have the sides cut away.
Thinking about knocking one up for a RMX, when I eventually.

Jimmy if I were you I would place a few holes under the cooling intake of my lappy, increased airflow would make your machine run much cooler...just a thought...T

I was thinking that Terry, getting some slots cut down both sides, where the base of the laptop sits, for that reason mate, maybe that will come in my mk3 version.
i think I might have to copyright this idea, patent pending and all that. LOL

you got the technology mate, make the cut outs on the base look like a honeycomb effect, now that would look well cool... as long as it doesn't weaken the structure

What material is that Jimmy? Cast aluminum? Looks nice and polished...I'm easily distracted by shiny things....ooo...shiny....

Jimmy, this really makes me yearn for the days that I worked in the fab shop...Nice job! Did you do the welding?

No Terry, it's 2mm NS4 Flat sheet Aluminium. My next version will be brushed so it will look similar to the RMX, also I'm going to cut slots in the base for the laptop rad

No mate, No welding, there's very small slots cut down the sides of the base so it could be bent easier, this grade of ali I used tends to crack when it is bent in a press. So the slots helped to stop that.

Good idea mate, this is what I came up with. It's the mk2 version, which I did earlier today, it's still work in progress, needs bending now.

As you can see I've taken alot of material away from the sides and sort of used Tayla's idea on the base. This will allow cool air to circulate under the laptop also it looks cool. But I might have to use thicker material, got to wait and see how stong it is once it's been bent into shape
I think it looks good so far.

starting to come along nice mate, couple of more suggestions if you like, make the border a bit wider on the top before starting the cut out area and bring the design into the side walls as well, this will also add strength to the supporting legs...
Posté Wed 11 Jun 08 @ 11:04 am
add a hole next to it on the side to the u can make a cup holder to store your ALCOHOL...i mean apple juice../BEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I was thinking that mate, might off took to much "meat" of. If so I'll have to put another 5-10mm on the border and another 5mm on the legs. I'm going to see what it's like once it's bent. It will only take about 10 mins to get it reprogrammed if I have too.
This thing going to cost me a fortune in pints to the lad who is cutting it for me, lol.
Posté Wed 11 Jun 08 @ 12:24 pm
and the guy from the design department lol, still think the sides need to be solid and made like the cut out of the base, simply if someone accidently fell against it would less likely to fold like a back of cards...
anyway i'm on giga...
