Sujet: Denon HC4500 & virtual DJ, Serato , Virtual Vinyl

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I use virtual vinyl, serato and virtual dj. Using the HC4500 mapped with virtual dj can be better. I use it with serato and its unbelievable...
With virtual dj, The mapper is good but there is a problem with the way the cueing feature is desinged. with the cueing. When you play a song and then pause, it overwrites a cue you have set. That is bad... On serato, (This is for storing cue points that wont be easily errased) you press memo and all the lights on the 5 function keys light up and you select 1 of the 5 keys for a cue mark. (this is for storing a cue that will always be there and not esily erased like virtual dj ) You press memo again to exit out of key function marks. You can play and pause and i wont change your set cue like virtual dj. The cue button next to the play button should only be a temporary cue and the cue you marked (The stored cues should not be overwritten ) It would be better to assingn another button to allow you to either store or delete and then exit. you should be able to go back to the stored cue without having to worry about it being errased from the play pause or cue button.

The Pitch control also. You move it up and down and seconds later, it shows moving. Its like a freeze up on the pitch

Interesting....

I'm getting my timecodes probably next week so I'll finally get the chance to mess around with cuing. I don't do much in the way of multiple cue points with my midi controller.

I'm also thinking about using Serato and Virtual Vinyl so this question is a little of the subject of Cueing but I've got to ask you this:
How does Serato sound compared to Virtual DJ? I have not heard the VV sound card in action but what I've noticed is that the Serato sound card with the Serato software sounds awesome. The Serato sound card with Virtual DJ software sounds like shit.

Have you had the chance to compare the sound quality of these to side by side?

I do not know if you are using jpboggis's mapper for the 4500 but with his mapper (not the native one) if you read the included instructions you'll see that you have about 100 user custom settings which you can access by holding cont.single and press flip
under this user menu you can change the way that cue works
also with the new mapper you can assign 5 cues to the buttons and they stay there untill you erase them is agreat mapper you should give it a try but make sure that you read the instructions about 40 pages or more
the first button is going to be assigned to first cue being the same cue that you assigned by pressing cue button when in pause mode

so you might want to assign the same cue(first cue) to the second hot cue button so if by mistake you would press the red cue button when you are paused in a different point, a point other then the one assigned to the first cue, you will still have the first cue saved.

like this you can save 4 hot cues plus a cue that you set by pressing cue when in pause mode which is the same with the first hot cue button,
if you'd press cue it will play asl ong you hold it down and when released will go back to cue(the one you assigned by pressing cue in the last pause position before pressing the red cue button)

in order for this to work as described you have to change the default cue mode under the user menu which can be accessed by:
holding down the "flip"button and press "cont/single" button;
then you go to position 11 by pressing">>";
and change the default cue behavior to "cue/play" by tapping the parameters knob and rotating to change it to the new value that will show on the lower line of the display "cue/play";
after you are done, save settings by holding "flip" and press "cont/single'

It's designed like that because that's the way Denon CD players such as the DND-4500 work. The basic controls of the mapper are designed to closely replicate a rackmount Denon CD player such as DND-4000/DND-4500, including the behaviour of the A1/A2/B, etc. buttons.

However, as mentioned above, you can change the PLAY/CUE behaviour via user parameters to any of the following (To suit your preferences):

  • Denon: Cue = Goto cue point/stutter, Play = Play/pause, setting cue point on play

  • Cue/Play: Cue = Set cue/stutter, Play = Play/pause (Doesn't set cue point)

  • Stop/Play: Cue = Stop/cylce through cue points, Play = Play/pause (Doesn't set cue point)

The Stop/Play mode would probably suit you the best - With that, you can only set cue points in Cue Points mode via either the parameter knob or 1-5 hot cue buttons.

NOTE: In the Denon mode, you can start playback without setting a cue point by pressing FLIP+PLAY

Cool... Thanks for the info Lex and JP

I was able to disable the cue feature on the play pause button. Now its play, stop and to the beggining. I set cues only on the 1 thru 5 keyes.

I was reading the instructions but changing the settings is a little confusing, but i figured some of it out.

Does anyone know how i can have the parameter button always on to scroll for songs without having to click on the playlist button first. I just play music and i dont care about effects, samples, or being able to use virtual dj with this button. I play music fast and i need to change it up with less buttons to press. I just want to scroll and push down on the parameter button to load up next song right away..

Sorry, that's not possible in the current version. The parameter knob has different functions, depending on what mode is selected.

However, the next version (Currently being tested) has an option to remain in browsing mode after a song is loaded,which will allow you to leave browsing mode turned on permanently if you want.

OK. Thanks again JP

That was jp doing a favor for me on the new mapper, its much appreciated as well, the new mapper is great.
