Anyone using a desktop instead of laptop? Any advantages? Which is not as expensive and well working with VDJ? Which desktop do you own and has no freezes and problems?

Been using a Shuttle SN25 for two years now, fits in my gig box perfectly, pics in my blog.
Updating to 750g dives currently (holds 4), the system has been absolutely flawless for me.
Changed to a dual core processor and updated the video card and thats about it.

desktops are better for just bout any program vs a lappy... just because it dosnt have to worry about portability, energy, etc... it runs cooler, and the processers are generally faster...
but thats the thing... they are desktops

I use a desktop built into a Rackmount case - Pics in my Blog.

Same here. I prefer a rackmount to a laptop. It's easy to upgrade/repair. Also, with room for 11 drives, no need to worry about carrying external drives or spares. Everything is in one package. My current system is almost three years old and my new system is just about ready for testing.

I also have changed to a desktop as my lappy just couldnt cope with video effects. I bought all the components and a small case (12" with half height) and mounted it in a roadcase with my mixer and a 7" touchscreen. I am just programming the midi functions on the mixer (Pioneer DJM700 with two Numark CDX running timecode) and will only have to go for the keyboard (also a mini unit without number keys, etc) when I have to search. Its a bit heavier than a notebook but a lot easier to setup as I needed five USBs (conectiv, wireless mouse, touchscreen, midi in, and capture card for vid camera) so just leave everything setup in the roadcase now. Will post some pics soon.

Definately a desktop fan.
I started a thread to discuss this before I had read this one. You might want to check it out.
