If you wanna get desktop build your own or order a one, brand name is much expensive. I own firm and we are selling only custom build pc's that we make. Currently our best machine costs around 800 euros and it has Quad core Intel CPU, 4GB of ram, 640GB Sata hdd and Geforce 9600GT with Thermaltake Soprano or similar desktop case with 500w Thermaltake power supply.

scriber, when you finally make all your decisions and purchases your kit had better be the SHAT!
you have been researching this very thoroughly, which is good.
I wanna see some pics and hear some mixes when you get it all together.
Alf is steering you right, build it yourself or have it custom built. You get exactly what you want and it will be cheaper.
If you have a shop locally that can build for you that works nicely, then you will have a service center as well.

Start with this motherboard bundle. I deal with them because they give you 3 years on the processor, ram, and motherboard. They test it so you don't have to worry about any of the three components. If one does go, you deal with them, not Intel, or the ram maker. I am on my second unit (actually 2 new units, I built my partner one). They also have XP, but may be under the same mandate from Microsoft. The case I used is not cheap, but you can take a look at it by going here. I don't have any issues, but that does not mean you will have the same results. You will have to jump into the deep end by yourself. We will be on the sidelines with life vest, CPR, defibrillators, mouth to mouth (not me), and a shot of adrenaline. There is such a thing as too much research.
