Sujet: Please Help The Newbie get a good setup

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

I am getting ready to make a switch from just audio and purchase a copy of Virtual DJ as it’s the best software I have found for ease of use with mixing videos, visualizations and pictureslideshows. I will be using Sonique Visualizations, Music Videos in VOB, AVI, & MPG formats and the Picture slideshow feature as well.. I will be connecting to a projector as well as my standard monitor if that needs any consideration

I have searched the forums over and over and have seen issues with this video card and others I really don't have much of an option other than the Nvidia 8 series. I would like suggestions if necessary of other video cards, operating systems, motherboards, memory or if these will do me fine thanks. Please let me know what you think of this setup. I want a REALLY REALIABLE and STABLE SYSTEM.. I don’t like to have technical difficulties as everyone knows there no fun.

I am looking at a machine with these specs

Proccessor - E8400 dual core 3.0 ghz

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L P35, 1333mhz FSB, DDR2, 1GB LAN

Memory - 4GB (4x1GB) PC6400 DDR2 800 Dual Channel Memory

Video Card - Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT 1gb onboard memory PCI EXPRESS 16X

Hard Drive – Maxtor/Seagate 500 GB 7200 rpm SATA2 UDMA 300 32m CACHE

Operating System - XP 64bit edition

First of all don't get a computer with 64 bit os as many hardware manufacturers dont have drivers for 64 bit. Also the 8XXX series cards are built on Direct X 10 which is in Vista so I would say to achieve good quality u will need Vista 32 bit.

good suggestion from Brian ...... the mudder bored is only ddr2 ?? i believe double data rate synchronous dynamic ram is up to ver 4 .......

yer gonna have to migrate to Vista eventually .... if you have 32 bit you'll have less problems but the downside is i believe the RAM limit will be 3 gig

butt , that's not much of a downside .......

Using 32 bit vista u will see 4 gig ram n yes using 32 bit xp u will only see 3 gig ram.

N yes stay away from 64 bit as it not wide supported yet.

I don't use any external controllers so I am not worried about drivers. I want to extract every ounce of horsepower from the computer and xp64bit allows me to have access to all that ram.. Is there any downside keeping in mind I don't use external controllers to use xp64bit with Virtual DJ???

I appreciate all the comments

Trust me when I say this, Stay away from 64 bit. You need to look deeper than just controllers, you need to look at graphics drivers, sound card drivers etc. I have heard nothin but bad reviews of any 64 bit system.

it isn't just an issue for controllers ..... you are being given good advice i suggest you take it

this points out once again a certain fallacy .....many people think if you have the latest and greatest that nothing can go wrong ......a fast processor is nice and lotsa Ram is nice but what's more important than those 2 items .......? compatibility and that means support and drivers

i made the mistake of getting a system with XP Media Centre Edition .....it's a variant on XP PRO and the last instance or flavor of XP ....

it was about a week's worth of pain in the ass to get rid of skips and pops and problems .......

you could blunder into the same kind of difficulties with 64 bit Vista .......everything and anything you do or can't do is going to be determined by your operating system FIRST , last and always .......

AGREED and I too went through the MCE issues on top of that it was on a DELL!!

MCE on a Dell .......whew you can have more fun at the dentist .......Brian yer a moderator ......

i guess it's okay ? to say Dell ??

i know people who use Dell like a dirty word ..... for instance " i don't give a Dell " or" you piece of Dell!"

Remember my saying DELL=HELL now I know there are users with much success with Dell, but I think it is really hit and miss.

Ok.. well since I have a copy of XP64 bit already I will test it thoughouly before I go the vista route.. and it may not seem I am taking your advice but I am if it proves to be a pain in the back side I will load vista on there and go that route. My reasoning for shying away from vista is I have had nothing but utter chaotic problems with it. It eats resources and couldn't do simple things I did in xp. I use XP64 bit at my regular job and have had no issues whats so ever. I am not about having the latest stuff its why I am shying away from vista and a quad core proccessor and DDR3.. Newest is not always the best I agree. I like proven better.. THANKS everyone for the help!!!! I look forward to getting my copy of Virtual DJ and get this baby up and running.
