Sujet: decks still spinning but sound cuts out (5.1)

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Happened three times tonight and completely screwed up the gig...

Middle of a track after running ok mixing for over an hour, and the sound just stops in the middle of the song. Look at screen and deck is still playing according to vdj but no sound coming out. Try the other deck and no longer can control vdj via timecode. Twist the knob on the conectiv and switch to cd to get going again until I can reboot the pc to make things work again. Goes fine for about another 45 mins then sound stops again. The fact it lets me still plays cds suggests the sound card is still working. Anyone else seen this? Dual 2200, 2 gig, 8400GS, VDJ 5.1, Vista Business, TCD via CDX.

I had something similar happen.

I play for about an hour and I notice a sound skip that last for about a second. Then, during the same song another one. I switch songs, and it's the same. More sound skips.

I finally rebooted. It was good for another hour and the same thing again.

Vista is just an awful, awful OS.

In vista you must increase the latency in order to not get skips. I've seen some vista systems as high as 23ms.

I had tested out the demo version and finally got it working with my serato setup but when I was at my friends who had the Pro Version 5.1 we couldnt get the TCV working properly. He actually has XP and not Vista on his machine so its not a total blame on the OS. I think the new engine is very sensative. I could get sound but when I would move the record I would get delays and sound dropouts as well. It just seemed the engine wasnt tracking the timecode as smoothly.

I have noticed in 5.1 the auto config doesn't work.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Its not really a skipping thing - when it stops, it stops completely and doesnt come back - completely dead air but player still spinning on screen and keeps spinning even after I stop the cd - control of decks is lost completely and no sound at all comes out until I reboot the pc and away it goes for another hour. I will check the latency but I dont think thats it. I will also try another usb cable to the conectiv but I doubt thats it either. Anyone else had this problem or any further suggestions?

I had this happen when I had an IRQ sharing issue between the sound card and the vid card, check ur IRQs.

How do I check IRQs?

Also just had it happen at home now trying to find whats happening so have some more info. When the sound stops, although the decks keep spinning, when I check the timecode config there is no signal being received. Everything else seems to work ok - I can load samples, choose video effects - just no sound comes out or timecode signal in. Close vdj and reopen it and still has same problem - no timecode signal. Restart pc and restart vdj and works ok again for a while (up to an hour)...

OK more info - When it happens I can go to config and turn off timecode press ok, then go back in and turn timecodes back on and it works again. Any ideas or should I do a support ticket maybe?

I assume your soundcard is usb correct??? Are your usb ports shutting down to conserve power???

I dont think its that as immediately when it happens I can twist the conectiv knob and hear the timecode signal thru the soundcard. I also have suspend usb disabled in Vista power settings so it shouldnt be turning off. I have left it not going for a while and then return and it will be working so only happens when the program is actually operating I think.

No scrub that - left it just sitting and when I returned I had no timecode signal. I havent got a clue whats happening with this. Burning all my new tracks to cd in case it fails tonight.

Also had to reboot to get it going again this time - just turning timecode off and on didnt work.

Suggestions?

You have used this setup prior to tonight, and had no problems? Everything is the same, including the version of VDJ? Did you try the new usb cable you mentioned? Can you get another Connectiv to try, or a different sound-card? If this is something that just started, I would look first at my hardware, to see if one component is failing.

Yep has been running nice before last night. Did this once about three weeks ago and I thought it was when some flouro lights got turned off and put it down to a one off weird electrical interference type thing. Not much changed since then - installed a few video effects and upgraded to 5.1 were the only recent changes.

Ran faultlessly tonight for five hours without any issues so maybe it is an electrical interference thing - what a great gig - its so much fun to play school formals when you've been doing weddings and corporate functions non stop for a while. But I digress, also swapped the usb cable on the conectiv so could have been that too. I will play with it again tomorrow and report back any probs.

If u are thinkin it could be a power issue, pick urself up a UPS (Uninterupted Power Supply), I got mine for like $40 and it has saved my ass a few times already.

This is a Hercules - Virtual DJ 5.1 Firmware issue...guaranteed.

Hercules needs to solve.

Been running fine but I have to make sure I dont turn anything off during the night. Last night when we accidentally turned off the hazer, it caused the problem again. A couple of weeks back, I turned off one of my CDX's and it did it. Weird - must be some kind of electrical interference thing. Will try and find a suitable UPS to try.
