Sujet: Mixed in Key and VDJ

Ce topic est ancien et peut contenir des informations obselètes ou incorrectes.

Does any one know of a program silimiar to this one - http://www.brainfuck.nl/ - but for VDJ? It takes your analyzed collections in MIK and exports the key data into your DJ software. Awesome for users with large music collections who do harmonic mixing and saves you the time of having to input key info manually.

I don't know of any for Virtual DJ but it should be a fairly easy task to do. However, Virtual DJ 5.1+ already analyses the key of your music so there is no need to do this!

VDJ analyzes for Key, has since 5.0. What version are you using? Before VDJ added the Key info I used MixMeister Studio free version for the Key info....If your still running 4.3 try upgrading to the newest version..you'll love it!

WOW! Thats awesome! Been using the lastest version and had no idea it did this. Question though, is there anyway to get VDJ to analyze key in the Camelot format like Mixed in Key does? EX: 9B, 10A, 11B etc...

Right mouse button click on the bar in the browser. There will be an option to show the Camalot system.....

I don't know if this is something we should ask the developers to be changed, but Virtual DJ's camelot system isn't as accurate as MixMeister's. It does seem to work well enough as it is, but as you may know, with MixMeister, if a track has a key of 7A, then only 6A, 7A, 7B and 8A are truly compatible. Virtual DJ reports every track as an A.

Yes Andrew you're right. I get all A's as well. How do we go about reporting this to developers? Also is there any way to edit the given Camelot info inside VDJ?

Even though the Dev Team does not post they read the forums on a regular basis. Also this was discussed at a higher level of the forums....

ok cool hope they can iron out the kinks with this. In the mean time do you know how to maually edit the Camalot values within VDJ?

The issue you raise is the issue for Major vs Minor key detection. And the simple answer is that most tracks are in Minor (Camelot A) and not Major (Camelot B)

If you read here you will get a good take on the issue - http://www.mixshare.com/wiki/doku.php?id=how_to_find_a_song_s_key

... and at the bottom of the page your will see the following statements ...
" Most dance music (especially trance) tends to be in a minor key. The reason being that it is generally believed that minor keys convey more emotion.

Some electronica tracks are so melodically challenged that they could be considered minor or major with equal validity. Such tracks usually have just one or two identifiable tones, but no real melody. They have “no third,” which is essential is distinguishing between a major and a minor."

Now granted the style references are those for trance and electronica, however the premise is true across all genre. And if you looked at the examples provided on that page every track was a Minor key example.

That's all fine and good but some of us don't play trance or electronica. I ran a bunch of tracks through both VDJ and MiKey and I'm getting pretty dramatically different results - and a lot of major keys. Is this something that will be addressed in 5.3?

I'm also having problem with virtual dj's key and camelot tabs. they don't match with each other.

The most I have seen is with mixed in key I will get a double value (it will say something like 7A/7B). This most often happens when it is a house song, but I tend to agree with CStoll. I play house, top 40, hip hop and reggae. If you are intent on using mixed in key's value's, select the option to write it to your ID3 tags and then don't scan them in VDJ. VDJ will then use the value already provided in the tag.
