Hi all,
over the past few months years, there has been more an more swing away from the conventional laptop as we know it..
we've had...
UMPC - Ultra Mobile PC. usually similar in size / spec to a PDA, but with a 5inch to 7inch screen and runs XP.
Netbook - Recently this is the Asus EEEPC. similar to a laptop, but with a 7inch screen (and 10inch recently)
has anybody had any success with these smaller PCs?
will VirtualDJ work quite hapily on a system with a 1.6ghz or less processor?
is the graphics card on these enough for me to be able to hook up an external monitor for karaoke?
is the screen resolution good enough to be able to read the text on screen for the VDJ search? (if i resize a skin to 1024x600 it looks ok on my normal TFT)
Is anybody using a netbook or UMPC ?? let us know how you get on with it.
i'm thinking of getting one to use as backup if my main PC fails..

i see. so nobody has bought a 'netbook' laptop.
or maybe nobody uses a laptop to DJ with??
my question was to see if anybody is using those new laptops with a 10inch or smaller screen.
i certainly DONT WANT a laptop with a 17inch screen that might cost 1000 !!
the asus n10 (its the next contender to the eeepc crown) it has quite a good spec for a minature laptop..
i want to get one, but has anybody tested / tryed our beloved Virtual DJ on a netbook ????

I do not use a laptop I use a dedicated gigging pc. I like the idea of a big screen 20" or more when i gig and a laptop with that size screen cost too much.

looks good.
if you could loose your dB meter, and the item at the top of your rig (is it a BPM counter), you could squeeze your pc into a 2u space...
but id consider putting some more fans inside your rack for airflow.
im using a Shuttle PC.
it takes 3 harddrives, but my music spans 10 harddrives.
ive got a full size tower case, with gigabit ethernet link to my shuttle.
im looking for a smaller gig machine and to condense my music to just one external drive, poss 1.5 tb (available soon) and then setup my tower in the flat above the bar (then ethernet down to DJ stand)
can you do video on your IBM system??
(BTW. are you DJing at a fassion show in the pic??)

It was a fashion show.
First thing in the rack is my power strip with voltage readout and rack light a much needed item.
No the IBM does not do video I have another PC for that with a two headed video card from ATI
The both amps pull air from the front and exits from the back no additional cooling needed.
I use the meter for setting my gains and if my rack is far from me its easy to see.
As for harddrives i have 2 terabite drives one full and the other about 1/2 full.
Had a rackmount pc but could not fit the videocard i wanted in it.
