Got my new Gator 8x4 slant rack in today but ran into a couple problems. The first is it only has the screw rails on the right side for the top. Still managed to fit my Numark cdn 25g decently by placing the the main unit in the upper half of the bottom and controller in the top bottom so that the controller is propped up by the main unit. However the mixer, a vestax dsm 410, sinks down so I put a couple playstation game boxes underneath to prop it up. Plus, the screw openings on the Vestax seem to be just short of being able to fill in both screws.
Has anybody seen simmilar problems with racks? I'm thinking I'll just take it to my dads & get his help fixing it. But this is my first rack system so I don't know what's normal for them;^]

It's called manufactures tolerances.
Each bit will be slightly different measurements than the other guys. Gator usually makes decent cases, so before you hack it up maybe have a good look at the unit, perhaps it's defective.
Good luck

Thanks for that Marcel, I figure if worst comes to worst I can add a second rail myself & have dad strip the screw openings open a bit on the vestax for me. Other than that it does seem like a solid case & the dust/ top cover is very thick. I've got a couple Gator guitar cases as well & they're fantastic. On a side note, I got my Shure sm58 today as well and WOW, sounds almost as good as my Rode NT1A Condenser mic;^]

Timmy, I would send the manufacturer an email asking if that is normal...

I might just do that in a bit, but I don't think I'm gonna bother either way with sending it back. It'd be much easier just to make mods to the case & mixer rather than have to go through the state to have them request an exchange. Still, maybe the Gator company can send me the second rail, will definatly check, thanks;^]

I did shoot an email to the Gator company, haven't heard from'em yet though. I'm leavin' to go to mom & dads for the weekend though later this morning & will let my dad take a look at it. I hope the new power amp (QSC GX5) fits ok when it comes in next week, otherwise it will be a major problem. I'll hold off on any mods to the case until then, but it should be ok I think because the Numark cdn 25g fit the bottom rack without any problems. If we can just modify the screw openings on the vestax I can keep using the game cases to prop up the mixer until then. Thanks again for all the help;^]

That's the thing, it'll be a bigger hassle to have it exchanged rather than fix it myself. This was ordered through DRS (department of rehabilitative services), so to return it I'd have to send it back to them, wait on them to request the exchange, and so on & so on. But it seems the only problem with the rack itself is the lack of a mounting rail there on the left side, if I can add one or something simmilar myself the problem should be solved. As you can see in the pics on the right side that the Numark controller fits fine for both top & bottom screws, so the spacing problem (right side mounting) from top to bottom screw with the vestax is a problem with the vestax (but that's a fairly easy sollution);^]

The other s are correct Timmy; It's a bad case.
On the other hand you now get to play "Red Green."
remeber: "Spare the Duct Tape, spoil the job!!"

Ok, after lots of thinking last night I realised I'm being stubborn as usual..lol. So first thing monday morning I'm taking it back to DRS to have them request an exchange, I don't have any gigs lined up right now until Oct. 30th anyway. Thanks again for all the input and suggestions;^]

lol.. I'm just about to head over to DRS now so we can request the exchange plus pickup one of my lighting bags (arriba ac 152). hehe, hopefully it won't take long to get the exchange;^]

Well the guy we spoke with at Musicians Friend decided rather than an exchange that they'd send me a new set of rack rails instead. Eh, guess that works anyway..lol;^]
